I am not familiar with the Mahindra but a couple of things that I have experienced are :- Some pumps have an inlet filter screen in the connection to the injector pump which can block preventing flow from the lift pump causing the injector pump to cavitate. Faulty lift pump valve which reduces the output of the lift pump causing the injector pump to cavitate. Check the pressure in the line between pumps when cranking with the injector lines disconnected. This is also going to show low pressure if there is any other restriction in the fuel system prior to that point.

When I had a similar problem it was a hair line crack in a fuel filter housing.
