If students are given more agency in co-designing a curriculum that motivates their learning, your role as a teacher transforms. The rising critics of public education are all crying for teaching students how to learn, not what to learn. Knowledge conformity has no place in schooling. Giving agency to students will develop divergent thinking leading to knowledge diversity. All teachers should read "Weapons of Mass Instruction" (Gatto 2013) to understand the present agenda of public education. Project based learning is becoming a movement to counter that agenda. This approach allows teachers to have meaningful relationships with their students and create a promising future.

Love this. Inspired by your story! I enjoyed listening to how you likened your mountain Trek experience to the classroom - the challenges and joys of teaching students. One thing that gave me goosebumps, “Nicole sees me!” Congrats on the trek up MT Kili. Ps ur laugh is infectious.
