It´s a pity that current president Milei is dismantling the atomic reserch and educational center in Bariloche and Argentine scientists are migrating to other countries😒

@1dering1 While some scientists may have chosen to leave Bariloche or Argentina for various reasons in the past, the scientific exodus we are now experiencing implies a large-scale trend, which was not the case before Milei's policies began to impact the research community.

300 km to the north lies 'Ruta Provincial 23'. It's a dirt road that traverses a forest of Araucaria, a living fossil dating back 200 million years. It's an authentic Jurassic Park where you can travel back in time 200 million years and experience the world as dinosaurs once did. It is a strange looking forest. If you are lucky, you may spot a ñandu (Rhea americana). Paleontologists agree that birds are theropod dinosaurs, and many non-avian dinosaurs also possessed feathers. Observing a ñandu in this ancient setting provide the closest experience to viewing a dinosaur in its Mesozoic habitat. While there are other Araucaria forests, they are mixed with modern plants. Ruta Provincial 23, however, features exclusively ancient species. In many places, it also showcases volcanic landscapes with pillars similar to the famous Giant's Causeway in Ireland. One place that has both is the forest near Caviahue (but that's not on the route 23).

I'm from BA but I lived there for a few years and always go back as much as I can. Hope you enjoy it and dive deep, as you always do, into the culture and lifestyle. Bear in mind that Bariloche has (as many touristy places do) a forward facing side and the "other" side, where actual working class people live. In the case of Bariloche that is going upwards from the lake (i.e. southwise, I'd say after Avenida Brown give or take) and behind the hill; you'll see another reality there. I say this as I know you like to go beyond the veil of wherever you're visiting: many tourists just keep to the postcard side and never get to see what's on the other side.

Hi Garry. Please, here we do not say german-chilean or german-argentinian.

Great outing!!! You got a glimpse of a historic racing car, that got totally restored by some friends of mine!!! The white Renault Fuego #5 with the LEE on the doors, that racecar history is amazing: When it was too old to continue racing, it was abandoned on a field. My friends found it´s husk and spent 10+ years restoring it to working condition with it´s livery as it was on the late 80s.
