Reference of the South Carolina Nullification and the Texas Revolution: The sympathy which exists in behalf of Texas at the south, looks to other objects than the mere defence of that country. Texas is desired as an appendage to the strength of the south. They wish it annexed to the union, that the balance of power may still be found on the feeble side of • Mason and Dixon's line: Once let the cry for succor be rung through the land and the annexation of Texas they imagine will be as easy as it is desirable. So reasons the south. Let the north reason otherwise. The Texians are not deserving of aid or sympathy The invasion of that country by Santa Anna, is not unprovoked but It is in a great measure justified, in retaliation for the Santa Fe expedition, which had for its avowed purpose the subjugation and pillage of Mexico. The Texians have provoked the assault, and now they must abide the consequences, unless a fool-hardy and absurd idea prevails, that we must succor these men, because Texas affords a refuge for outlaws and desperadoes for the whole continent of North America! Texas at all hazards, union or no union, must be had to be kept out! The Texas lot was the most bare faced high handed outraged ever recorded on the page of history, to which there is no legal or moral justification, and has no resemblance to anything we know of, save South Carolina nullification! -Phila. My great-great-grandpa was a Pvt. in 'The Redshirts' Company D, 24th Ohio 'Ammen's Regulars'. They captured over 300 Tennesseeans near a battery under Gen. Rousseau's command, and killed Rains in the process. They had a terrible part in the fight at 'Hell's Half Acre,' alongside remnants of the 49th Ohio. The 24th didn't accurately count wounded but had roughly 30-50% casualties. Most maps put the 24th as the hinge on the Nashville Turnpike.

It was an absolute tragedy that Abraham Lincoln was murdered, I often think what direction the American society would have taken if he’d been able to govern after the war.
@thedailybellringer2 күн бұрын
Yes, what a big IF? Lincoln was assassinated at the exact point of his greatest accomplishment and popularity. It would have been interesting to see how he would have dealt with Reconstruction and how he would be remembered. Instead we have Lincoln pass into legend and myth.

Hello, I've just discovered your channel, and I wanted to tell you I'm really enjoying it. The subject matters are of interest to me, and I really like that they are short videos but still explain things.
@thedailybellringer7 күн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. My videos are designed to be used by teachers in classrooms and by home educators. I do my best to keep them short and to the point sharing the basic history that will then hopefully lead to further study. All of my videos are appropriate for students and I try my best to have a little bias as possible. I hope you find the videos helpful. Thanks

@@thedailybellringer I think you maybe interested to know that I am an Australian citizen. I am so amazed by your wonderful country’s rich, at times tragic but inspiring history and achievements. I’ve been learning about the civil war and the war of independence by watching many, many videos. While I was aware of the civil war & the war of independence I had no knowledge of the real details. God Bless the United States of America xx

Britain takes it. Possibly buys it from the financially ruined Russia. If Russia refused, Britain would have pressured the recently defeated Russian by harassing its whaling around the Alaskan peninsula.

1) The US implmented trade barriers. In response so did other contries. This caused international trade to fall. Less trade less jobs 2) Government implemented high taxes accross the board, including corporate tax. Tax rate for people with income over 5 million went to 75%. So people stopped investing in industry and purcased tax free gov bonds 3) Bank failures. Banks operate on marginal reserve. This means you deposit $10 then they loan out $9 and have $1 in reserve. If you ask for you $10 back they call in loans, loans can not be repaid and the bank goes broke. 4) Massive Federal intervention into the market place
