The things I really love about this video: 1. The man bun purpose has finally been figured out 2. Simon didn’t loose his cigarette when putting a beam up 3. Being reminded that dad used to put the tree up on the roof center beam in houses when I was small, I don’t remember him doing it in later houses. Monika would know. 4. The roof became waterproof just in time. Yeah!

This is such an interesting watch, nothing at all like a house built in New Zealand. Materials, design, method and regard for a climate that induces a whole different set of problems, in fact the only thing similar is the view .... in my neck of the woods that is quite similar.
@TheAlpenhillside2 ай бұрын
@@MUDNROCKS thanks for the comment it's amazing just how many types and style of building there are. But you probably have cold winters too in the mountains? I used to live in western Australia and there a lot of buildings are quick to build but not climate resistant, heating and cooling in this type of home we are doing now willwt be very efficient, along the lines of a passive house.
@gmsskills43302 ай бұрын
NZ has all sorts of earthquake requirements in their building code that (presumably) doesn’t exist in Austria. Which brings me to my thoughts around this build that every time I see another concrete truck show up at Hundsdorf, it makes me wonder what earthquake regions would say about the building style.
@gmsskills43302 ай бұрын
The amount of concrete is remarkable. So different than building in the US. It is usually all steel and wood here after the foundation/basement/cellar are in.

Great progress, now questions, how much snow on the ground during winter, did you consider a trace wire or thermal fluid loops in those outside concrete decks ?
@TheAlpenhillside2 ай бұрын
@@MUDNROCKS thanks! We normally expect a relatively constant 1 meter snow cover from January to March, give or take. We are looking at putting in thermal coils in a trence on the garden as part of the heat exchange heating system but not in the outside terrace. They have to be over a meter below the surface due to frost.

Why build a house like a bunker? Isn't it more conducive to have more wide windows? Just curious.
@TheAlpenhillside3 ай бұрын
@@davidbindickanaktecksoonmo4165 Hi, it would be nicer to have more windows youre right! But we are restricted firstly by the steep level of the land, that means that on 2 sides we would have to have deep window shafts as the windows would be under ground level. Those shafts would have to stand 1/2 meter above ground level because of a second restriction as we are in a flood danger area. And the authorities have made some restrictions on how high out of the ground we can build incase the stream above us overflows. So we will have to try to make it a comfortable bunker 😅
@Re5ist_ance3 ай бұрын
Hi .. recently found your channel .. loving the content and build progress. Quick question .. I noticed the red bricks seem to be "glued" on with some white glue like substance. Is that all they do? I assume they hold pretty well? i.e. not easy to push over. Can't wait to see the rest of the build .. cheers.
@TheAlpenhillside3 ай бұрын
@@Re5ist_ance Hi there! Glad you're enjoy it! It's a fairly new technique to glue the bricks together, it's a type of foam that sets solid without raising the level of the bricks so they sit flush. It's a lot less work than mixing brick layers cement and not as messy. Although if you get it on your clothes you'll never get it off as I found out 😅
