One thing I would like to add in creation of buffer zone through IRAQ and SYRIA is because of the geographic reasons. The area where we claim terrorists reside is on top of the mountains where it can reach up to 7000-12000 ft, which is hard to control. That is why Turkey wants to expand beyond those mountains. You would rather send three perfectly stealthy small aircrafts than one somewhat stealthy behemoth. As to shortage of heavy machinery involved in combat by both sides I saw a Ukrainian officer interview where he said that both sides became very effective at hunting down machinery so both sides are being very careful and this is the reason they prefer light fast moving ground troops and light machinery. Due to its mobility it’s harder to destroy and of you lost one it’s cheaper anyway.
