Raised in Ballygally, went to Cairncastle Primary School . If you ever get the chance, there's a great wee drive where you hit the Cairncastle Rd at the hotel. Take a left. Leads you up into the village of Cairncastle, follow the signs for Feystown. Takes you up the side of that hill ( some view from the top ) and then down the back road into Glenarm. Doesn't take that much longer than if you went the Coast Rd to Glenarm.

Speaking of spring and summer....am I popping over to Belfast for a third year in a row (after swearing I'd never return after the first)? You're selling it to me Shadowman....love the people, the vibe, the craic, the culture and of course the black stuff! It's getting that bad people that I'm getting to know pub landlords by name and location....another £20 return on stena might persuade me for another May holiday! Another fine video here, nice one 😀

@klawlor3659 aww thank you for the kind words. That's brilliant, glad you are loving the wee country and that makes my day if these wee amateur videos sell the place. They aren't sugar coated, just showing the place how it is, warts and all. Enjoy the Guinness!

Utter mind f*ck that there’s country music stations over there. Didn’t realize it was popular enough to warrant actual FM radio stations on the other side of the Atlantic.
@shadowmanNI3 күн бұрын
It's massively popular here mate, both in NI and ROI. Been to the C2C gig a few times in Dublin, then for the first time in Belfast this year. Should check out some of the Irish country acts. Very cheesy lol but some not too bad

You are cycling along a footpath. Only a matter of time and circumstance for an accident to happen.Hope its not me being run over.
@shadowmanNI3 күн бұрын
Yeah it's a fair point. I do try and make sure I'm aware of surroundings, for example upper falls, nobody on footpath visible as far as eye can see- got out of way of bus lane/ road, so there's literally zero issue there. If I'm on a path and someone is approaching I'll slow down to a stop if needs be. I take the point about safety though 👍

I love all your videos, but I keep coming back to this one. There's something special to me about Ballymena. I don't know why, but I'm drawn there more than any other town in Ulster. I think Ballymena's size and conservative reputation make it especially relatable to me as someone in a town of 30k in the American South/Bible Belt.
@shadowmanNI4 күн бұрын
That's probably a reasonable assessment of the allure of the area, big Ulster Scots area too, which would fit in with your ancestry. Do love the area
@marshmallowblaster4 күн бұрын
@ yeah, I love the Ballymena accents too! Very musical.
@shadowmanNI4 күн бұрын
The link between this part of the british Isles and Scotland is very strong, in many areas of County Antrim accents are often mistaken by English people (or people from other countries) as being Scottish
@marshmallowblaster4 күн бұрын

Lovely video as always! You mentioned Raynaud's, I have it too! You might mention it to your doctor, mine goes along with a couple of more serious underlying issues I deal with. Not to be nosy, but take care of yourself! When my fingers and toes get too cold, I get this other related skin condition called pernio which is extremely uncomfortable, so I hope you can avoid that. Side note: you mentioned you smelled someone smoking weed, is weed pretty common in NI? I know it's still illegal there.

Thanks for the advice pal, I'll take that on board. Our nhs isn't really functioning and hasn't been for years due to a combination of things....I might have to go private. Otherwise healthy enough, just noticed that recently in the cold 👍 Very very common here, smell it everywhere

Going to be a weird question, but as a Canadian, the one thing I appreciate about my place/house is having a backyard (some grass, tree or two). You think the lack of a lot of these houses having their own sort of green space and being so compact together really affects people negatively? It’s like you can’t get any space to yourself. Just an observation, not a critique. Appreciate the videos.
@shadowmanNI5 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for the kind comment. You raise a fair question, you would think that such close living in such numbers in urban areas may have a negative impact on humans, not something we were "designed " to do? I think, without getting too political, there are less "issues" in more homogenous societies which tend to be higher trust societies. For years many inner city areas were relatively safe, leaving doors unlocked etc. I definitely see the value in open space and more rural living, though car essential
@marshmallowblaster5 күн бұрын
@@shadowmanNIas an American watching, that's the ultimate tradeoff I see Europe making versus North America and Australia. Your cities are much more walkable, at the cost of road infrastructure and green space. Even small towns are constructed like Manhattan or Toronto in terms of density. It looks a bit claustrophobic, but I can't even imagine how convenient life must be to be that close to things. A different way of life for sure.

@paulg.18835 күн бұрын
I could feel your pain. Great video nevertheless. Respect. So much history in this area and like the Shankill unfortunately much of the local character has been stripped away, especially in the lower Falls, although I don't think anyone living there now would cry too much about the loss of the infamous and badly planned and shabbily constructed Divis flats.
@shadowmanNI5 күн бұрын
Really noticing the fingers getting numb/abnormally sore in the cold lately mate. Had decent gloves on but at couple of points thought I might abandon it lol. Weird, as I was up black mountain this afternoon and the hands were grand. Yeah, plenty of history, as you say, lower falls has been ripped to pieces though the flats were 60s idealism/brutalism so best gone 👍
