Had this surgery done on both sides. This video is about as nice and clean as it gets. The reality here is they are drilling a hole in your head. Right pass your eardrum and then turning you into a bionic human. Most of us joke about being electric... I am magnetic.

I'm completely disheartened. I got a cochlear implant and I can hear pretty well BUT I am not enjoying it one bit since I can just wair a hearing aid in the other ear and live fine without the robotic-distant-metallic-high-pitch-wrong-frequency sound. After listening to this video, I want to cry. I went through a horendous sergery and readaptation so i could stream in one ear?! -Just go for it if you don't mind music becoming noise or if you are completely deaf. If you can hear in one ear, even only with a hearing aid THINK ABOUT IT TWICE!

A couple questions if anyone can answer them please. How do they reseal the round window since the cochlear is supposed to be a fluid filled sealed organ. Secondly how do the electrodes stimulate the hair cells since they are intended to be stimulated by movement of fluid.
@reubenpilli6549
@reubenpilli6549 2 ай бұрын
The surgeon takes a bit of muscle tissue from the neighbouring area and packs it around the area where the electrode array enters the round window. As the wound heals this tissue anchors itself to that area and seals the puncture. In some cases, the surgeon may in fact insert the electrode array in to the cochlear not through the round window but through a separate hole in the cochlear (the process is called cochleostomy). In that case also, muscle tissue is used to seal the area around the electrode array at the entry point into the cochlea. For the second question: the electrode array does not stimulate the hair cells. It stimulates the auditory nerve directly. The process is more like zapping the nerve ending at different locations in the cochlea. BTW, in normal hearing, the har cells are not stimulated by the fluid movement per se. They are stimulated by the vibration of the Basilar Membrane which makes the hair cells embedded in the Organ of Corti to rub against the Tactorial Membrane. The vibration itself is caused by the movement of the sound waves through the Perilyph in the Scala Vestibuli of the cochlea.

Hello, I apologize for writing this way. In short, about the sanctions, where and I live in Russia. I have a cochlear hearing aid version 5, and they are slowly dying, as if the batteries are poorly inserted into the hearing aid. We didn't get a new hearing aid 6 because 7 was coming out soon and we would have gotten 7 in 2-3 years. I have questions. When will you deliver hearing aid 7 in Russia? Although you have already delivered once, I saw on the news, but I did not receive a hearing aid. Apparently they want to let you out of Russia, but they won’t let you out to deliver a hearing aid 7. And the last question. Should I do the vestibular apparatus on the left side of my head? We get free hearing aids every five years I had a vestibular apparatus installed in my right in 2013. I just want to play games with stereo sound, for example cs go. Otherwise I’m sitting with mono sound and somehow I don’t want to play with mono sound. It’s a pity that I was born this way because of infection and the head doctor who sold children from abandoned parents. In general, I'm waiting for a new hearing aid. I really want a new hearing aid so I can listen to music through my phone and play games with stereo sounds

(I hope you can understand me because English is my second language and I don't speak it well) I am 17 years old and I took Kanso 1 in 5th grade (at the age of 11). And I still have this hearing device. So I've had it as a hearing device for six years. Guys don't get the Kanso 1 because it's a very bad hearing aid. The advantages of Kanso 1 are that you can play football or basketball without problem (you can use Kanso 1 with a hair clip if you want to play comfortably during training, game or life). BUT the disadvantage is that you can't hear well. I mean you can't hear what people are saying to each other. If you go out with a new friend, you will ask him "what, what did you say or didn't I hear can you repeat it" etc etc. You won't listen to your classmates. And because of this you will have no friends. So you will be alone. I don't have any friends. So I haven't found a friend for 2 years. From class 10 till now (class 11). After Middle School and Junior High school ( Grade 1-9 )l, I had no friends in Secondary high school (Grade 10- present 11). I was lucky to have friends when I was in Middle School and Junior High School ( Grade 1-9 ), but my luck ran out in Secondary high school (Grade 10- present 11 ). You will have problems with pronunciation, so you will have an accent. I have a close friend and he has Nucleus 7 and speaks like he is from our country. People will ask you every time "where are you from, you don't look like you are from here etc etc which is very annoying for me. I suggest you guys don't buy this. I am warning you because you will suffer a lot just like me. It is better if you get Nucleus 7 or 8. If you don't have money for Nucleus 7 or 8, buy KANSO 2 but DO NOT BUY KANSO 1. You will suffer a lot. Don't buy it. It doesn't matter the comfort or the model, it matters how well it sounds. You can't hear anything with kanzo 1. ( I hope that you understand me because as I said English is my second language ). I am not lying, if you think I am lying it's your problem.

How much it cost
@CochlearAusNZ
@CochlearAusNZ Жыл бұрын
Hi Mahender. Thanks for reaching out! In Australia, the cost of a cochlear implant can be covered by State Government funding, private health insurance or the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA). If you have access to any of these funding options, the best place to begin is with a cochlear implant assessment to determine your eligibility. If it is determined that you could benefit from a cochlear implant at an assessment, then you may be eligible for cover for cochlear implants by using one of the above funding options. If you'd like to meet with a cochlear implant audiologist for eligibility testing, please reach out and we can assist you! You can email us at [email protected] or call 1800 875 212. We're here to help.

Will it help to cure tinitus with hearing loss
@CochlearAusNZ
@CochlearAusNZ Жыл бұрын
Hi Pravin. Thanks for reaching out! Cochlear implants are used as a treatment for hearing loss, but are not a guaranteed solution for other issues (e.g. tinnitus). Whilst some people find that a cochlear implant does improve their perception of tinnitus, this cannot be guaranteed. Let us know if you'd like to speak to a cochlear implant audiologist to understand whether a cochlear implant could benefit you. You can send us an email to [email protected] or call 1800 875 212. We're here to help!

I just got my surgery on Oct 21st, can I exchange from nucleus 7 to 8?! It has not in activated yet……
@CochlearAusNZ
@CochlearAusNZ Жыл бұрын
Hi Tom. Thanks for your enquiry. Surgeries on or after August 19th may be eligible for a technology exchange, which allows Nucleus 7 to be upgraded to Nucleus 8. This would require a return of all Nucleus 7 accessories, and your clinic would need to place an order for Nucleus 8 with Cochlear. We'd encourage you to speak to your cochlear implant clinic, as this process will be arranged through them. However, if you need any help, you can contact Cochlear's Customer Service Team (Australia/New Zealand) by emailing [email protected] or calling 1800 620 929. Have a great day!
