There is a weapon that works like that Merchant weapon, but for Brawler without the low hit rate, I'm not sure if you already have it or not though, might be one of the loots you got here that needs purification. It's a 240 power knuckle weapon with purple rarity so you can easily see if you have it already or not.

The thing about MP restoration items is that most of the time you don't need full restoration, sometimes just getting like 60-80 MP to do a big fight is all you need.

Actually you can both steal and get a drop for the same item in the same battle from the same enemy. The carrying item is constant and so you only get it through Steal, but the drop item is RNG-based, so it depends on your luck stats whether you get one or not, and each enemy can drop the corresponding item so with high enough luck say, vs 3 of the same enemy, for example, you get 3 drops of their item. You can also test this by running any number of party members with the Merchant since it has the item drop passive on top of high luck.

Btw that Merchant weapon you just picked up is the worst of its kind because it has only 50 Hit chance, there are other weapons of that kind, I'm not sure if you have currently the one for Brawler that does the same but with higher hit chance. And yeah, it is amazing because normal attacks guarantee you free turns, and if you have that on a character with Swordmaster, or with Swordmaster's Martial Lore passive inherited, a normal attack rivals medium strength magic skills hitting a weak target, but with a 0MP cost.

You can equip Junah with a different mask, or even any other accessory tbh, at least she won't have the same weaknesses. Your reasoning vs the chimera monster wasn't bad, just incomplete because you forgot to account for the fact that stun can be undone randomly by any attack, even stealing can undo stun as it does 1 damage and is considered an offensive skill. You can try some things though, Knight's proclamation then guard in the same turn, this strat works on every enemy although story bosses can outplay it somewhat due to scripted AoE skills, as opposed to regular enemies who will mostly do single target skills when taunted even when they have AoE at their disposal. Alternatively you can have Heismay or the MC on Thief and inherit Knight's Proclamation to create a proper dodge tank. I suggest you put Hulkenberg on either of the Knight's elite archetypes as soon as you unlock them, when you reach Hulkenberg's bond level 7, as they both have excellent defensive capabilities which will make you more resilient.

Items you pick up from the ground count as fake save points, the game creates an autosave entry every time you pick up something right before it gets added to your inventory, so you can use that as an emergency.

Yes, if you are overleveled you can win without having an optimised setup, however the optimised setup beats even relatively big differences in level. In general it's more fun to find the correct combinations to overcome harder fights, leveling characters, not archetypes, is the most time consuming process in the whole game. Leveling up an archetype is relatively fast, my preferred way was to always have just 1 character leveling an archetype and the rest on a maxed out archetypes to farm the exp items. This way I was able to more or less always have the unlocked archetypes battle ready according to the story progression. I did make a few mistakes at first, for example I wasted time by not understanding immediately the value of archetypes like Knight because it isn't really a DPS class, though it is excellent against certain enemies if you build your team around the right synthesis skills, so later on I had to catch up and farm a lot, which was quite tedious. I also farmed a lot with Merchant, but didn't invest into a full Merchant team until the end, and mostly for completion purposes and speeding up the farming process, because Merchant gets boring fast despite being arguably the strongest regular class as it has Almighty damage skills with high crit chances, passive that boosts crit chance and the elite form also has a passive that boosts Almighty damage. Merchant is so ridiculous that from the moment you unlock it until the end of the game you can complete the entire story using just a team of all members using that archetype.
@TheEdmon
@TheEdmon Күн бұрын
Level matters massively in this. If your level is too low and the other guy has all-hit almighty, your just dead with nothing you can really do about it. My working theory is that you take about 10% more damage per level below you are. Of course not all enemies have "good" attacks that strongly benefit from the damage bonus, but those that do will just dumpster you.
@admontblanc
@admontblanc 11 сағат бұрын
@@TheEdmon tbf the one you were fighting is one of the hardest ones, I remember making similar mistakes, lost almost an hour of farming in the exact same spot you did. But it is still possible to beat him safely if you can hit once for weakness with everyone then use Guard on those weak to its attacks, or if you equip specific equipment for resistances or dodging, or a mix of both things. You do lose on unscathed victory bonuses, but long term you end up earning enough exp farming a bit more safely. So all this to say that you're not wrong, but there are ways to overcome this disadvantge that work almost all the time. I actually played SMTV: Vengeance after doing my first playthrough of Metaphor and even though it's actually easier most of the time, it also has much harder optional boss fights, and even the most ridiculous of those bosses was beatable using simple strategies without needing anything particularly cheesy.

About the thing with the battle outcome numbers being somehow worse when you add in ranged assist units into the mix, I think this is because each engagement between two units has a fixed seed number which decides the way each initiative turns plays out, including whether any units dodge attacks. Adding in an assist I think forces a different seed to be rolled for the battle, so it is possible for the same battle to have more or less dodges in the fight between the actual two units involved. So sometimes with the seed re-roll you could get way more dodges and the damage scores can make it worse than without. I don't think the game tells you this so it does seem to go against what you would expect when adding in assists. I believe it is the same when you have one unit on its way to fight another unit some distance away, with whatever battle damage it has predicted, but if another battle between two other units happens elsewhere on the map first, then that battle re-rolls the seed for the battle for the other two units for when they actually meet, which is why sometimes what looked like a certain win changes by the time those original two units get together, cos there are worse dodges with the "different" seed for the same fight.
@TheEdmon
@TheEdmon Күн бұрын
Your bang on the money, sometimes the best thing an assist does is not add damage, but re-roll criticals/dodges that didn't go your way.

Oh boy, I hated this mission with a passion in the old version because you could not go loud here without instantly failing it. So it is timed enemy movements + timed mitotic specimen movements + protecting the devices from being prematurely triggered by enemies that wander around like headless chickens, since anyone but mitotic specimens touching them also resulted in instant game over + having to precisely maneuver Jefuty to force a connection + you making the wrong moves with your characters without perfect foreknowledge resulting in instant game overs again and again. This was quite possibly the most difficult mission in the entire game back in the day. The bunkers with the yellow light in them were the shortcuts that Jefuty, could utilize to stall the shrikes potentially forever by changing her position on the map as they chased her, that's also how others could get around the ice blockades.
@TheEdmon
@TheEdmon Күн бұрын
That sounds absolutely horrible. It's not even strategy at that point, it's just memorizing the exact movement pattern the dev's decided was the winning one... which reminds me of the earlier mission where your carrying Jufty and there is literally only one exact solution.

The game was MTL'ed, then the translation was hurriedly edited before release because of how bad it looked in the demo. Though, the original language is chinese, so maybe the japanese translation was edited, I don't really know if chinese translates perfectly into japanese without any need for editing to make the dialogue sound less weird, and, similarly I don't think chinese translates perfectly into english, so the difference between the 2 translations will be bigger. But, also, perhaps, when preparing the script for the japanese translation, it was edited, because stuff like Carl calling Jefuty Ojou-chan(or however it would be spelt) doesn't seem like just a translation thing. And, perhaps, the english translation was still based on an older version of the script, because the voice acting seems to have been added at the end of production, I think it was up in the air whether the game would have it at all, the voice acting only appeared on release, it wasn't there in promotional material or the demo, which seems like a strange thing to not include in marketing.

The key to this mission, I found, was putting the patrolling guards around the eastern side of the map that go in large sweeping circles to sleep, as well as medics in between the buildings and maybe one or two at most on the western one, using Mondo's silencing strike if necessary.

i thought medieval European tactics never had mounted archers, it was always formation volley fire. it was a combination of a lower bar for training and scalability. i remember seeing a documentary about this and the training required for a japanese mounted longbow archer was immense. the mongols used short bows which made drawing easier at the expense of range and penetration but their tactics were hit and run. the medieval europeans just never bothered with mounted archers but that also reflected in the rank and file style of warfare they had.

You should probably use some Magla Pills or potions tbh, you can farm them from those moths anyway. Also, vs the big plants you don't need to trigger squad battles, you regain the 1MP just from stunning them, so you can keep stunning them in the overworld and even kill them without a squad battle. If you try that though, keep in mind that an enemy recovering from stun in the overworld has a grace period where your attacks don't do anything until they recover, so if you do things that way you gotta be quick on your feet so they don't sneak ambush you.

I had the new party members prioritised on the main team all the time as well, for the exact same reason. Even if you try to speedrun their bonds you'll only get them to the point where they unlock the normal exp gain in reserve way later. Also, you can always teach Mage or Healer to Junah and it works well. Or try Faker since she'll need it eventually, buffs and debuffs are more relevant from now on and Faker can erase enemy buffs easily.

I just realized that the tactics system in this game works exactly like the Gambit system from FFXII. You can probably make your units way more efficient by meddling with it and finding a proper way, for example in some engagements your characters within a unit will all attack a random foe instead of dogpilling, letting them heal and extending their durability, and the system seems to let you fix that somewhat.

Not to be a nag, but you're better off never trading MAG for cash tbh. I might not seem like it now, but you can easily get pressed with MAG spending later on, especially if you intend to branch out learned archetypes for multiple characters, and in some cases you'll need to in order to get their master forms. Cash is easy to farm with a full Merchant team since you not only get extra money but also a lot more item drops.

And Meteor is an absolutely monstrous weapon, combined with Jevon's maxed out auto-crit ability and Limit Break and Carl's Assault Operation to further boost his AP, he becomes potentially more devastating than Jefuty when it comes to delivering damage per turn.
