What is the boundary waters?
@wildersmithadventures6 ай бұрын
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) is over one-million acres of rugged and undeveloped wilderness! It lies in northeastern Minnesota, United States and extends nearly 150 miles along the Canadian border. With several hundred miles of streams and over 1,000 lakes, this network of connecting waterbodies provides a unique opportunity for long distance travel by canoe, which is rare within the continental United States. The BWCA contains something like 1,200 miles of canoe routes and allows one to canoe, portage and camp in the spirit of travelers of centuries ago.

Fantastic adventure. They will remember this for the rest of their lives!! Outstanding. My boys and i have been taking a week to 10 days the last 5 years and going canoeing or hiking. The porkies, sylvania, Drummond island. We talked about doing this trip. Maybe next year. Either the Manistee or the ausable .

nice video I would highly recommend a kayak paddle in a solo canoe
@wildersmithadventures10 ай бұрын
Suggestions always appreciated ;) Most of my solo trips have been river focused, so I really have no experience with a double blade paddle. I think I will consider it for next flat water solo. Also that was my first time in a Keewaydin 15 and the maneuvering felt odd to me the first couple of days, but I have to say I really came to enjoy it. It just took a little getting used to. Thanks so much for your interest!

Algonquin portages are in meters, not rods😉. So....1/4 mile...
@wildersmithadventures10 ай бұрын
Haha. Yep, in the US we still use the English system, even clinging onto the "rod" unit for portages. Hey, at least I do pronounce "por-taj" in proper Canadian, yeah? lol. That portage truly is the length I described (1 rod = 5 meters). Thanks so much for your interest. Peace from the mitten!

Hey Dude.. Great video. Glad you caught some trout. Not sure if youre aware but the "J stroke" while paddle well help you from switching sides so often. Or the Canadian if you dont like the J.. Check it out.. Also, slow down when trolling.. A lot.. Especially in the early cold water season when the brookies are moving slower .. Happy Paddling !!!

You are NOT supposed to be eating those fish. Every lake in the Sylvania Wilderness has specific length requirements as to what you can keep. Small rock bass do NOT meet those requirements. Otherwise, glad to see the youngsters experiencing such a beautiful place...rock on.

Please refer to pg26 of regulations. There is no size regulation for panfish and the possession limit is 10. www.michigan.gov/dnr/-/media/Project/Websites/dnr/Documents/LED/digests/2022_fishing_guide_Web.pdf
