It’s an AA Twelve Step program…I’m pretty sure it’s where she got her concepts. I have an issue with using the word “God” but I think of it as the “unseen” more because I’m not sure us humans aren’t meant to understand it all and it is very unseen😂

The god talk was a bit much. I worked through the book early this year in a group. I had to repeat the montra, 'Take what is meant for me and ignore the rest.'

I started the Artist Way and was enjoying it but I just fell off so hard mainly because of the God talk and couldn't afford the dates anymore. I had similar thoughts about the journaling too, like it helped but it just took up so much time to do them EVERYDAY. It's nice to know that I wasn't the only one feeling this way since everyone praises this book so much. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I was so disappointed about how the book approached God. I know she expresses that God can take whatever form you want at the beginning but it didnt read that way. It felt like there was only one way and this ruined, for me, the inner child concept that i did enjoy about the book. By chapter 4 anything that slightly hinted towards God i ignored and felt quiet frustrated about. I wonder how an updated version would do. You can tell the book is 30years old.

I just started making art and attended an art event and they kept saying how god is every artists inspiration and I was highly defensive because I felt unincluded or seen as someone who loves philosophy and more of a pantheist agnostic belief

My professor recommended this to me years ago with her final feedback on an assignment that I did for her class. I ended up getting a copy as a christmas gift, and now I am in week 3. This has been such an eye opening journey, and what it's definitely helping me with is recovering my autonomy, accepting help from others when it shows up, and self care. And yesterday after many years out of college and a few years out of a mini program that I was in, I realized that I studied the wrong thing as my college major. Yes I loved writing, but I realized that I should have done a creative writing program instead of the traditional journalism/media. I had a good cry last night over that.

WOW! Kathy, your video today was so spot on for me currently. Thank you for your work here, and for your vulnerability. You spoke to so many things that needed to hear. It was as if the words you are speaking in this video, were those of my own. I am old enough to be your mom haha, but I get it! <3 So much love and peace to you!! xoxo

i am on week four right now i feel like im slacking by doing only one or two tasks a week. but ngl i am noticing patterns in myself as well as a surges of creative energy i like this book a lot i just skip over the god stuff. I think some of the things she talks about in the book is a side eye like when it comes to work and money etc. I love this book so far i can see why it’s popular. This video helped push away some thoughts i had about the book that i read but immediately forgot in place with my bias. I look forward to doing this book again when im older and seeing what i missed or what i gain/ gain again

Do one page if 3 are too long., as a teacher I had five boys who mucked around all lesson. I kept them in and told them to write a page and say anything as nobody would read it. They folded it and I tore it up in front of them. They were always well behaved after that and now have a tool to express anger and rage and tear it up afterwards. It’s brilliant. .

I tried today for the first time because it was homework from my Creative Writing class. "First thing in the morning as you still kind of see blurry, write an entire page without thinking, nonstop, until the end of the page. Do that every day for 2 weeks and don't read it." I hate it so much. I'm sure at least half of the page was "I hate this. My hand hurts. This is useless." So I went to KZbin to see what's the point and if maybe I did something wrong. I have watched about 12 videos. Yours is the only one that made sense. Thank you. I wish it was explained like this before. I still don't like the idea but at least now I have something to fight the dread of feeling of it being useless.

I started my own The Artist's Way journey and I stumbled upon your first week vlog. Thank you for this, it kinda feel like I have someone to share this time with and someone, like a accountability partner, who also does this activities and practices along with me. Thank you for sharing your progress with us. Will continue watching your vids throughout this weeks. Cheers to both of us and I'm rooting for both of our endeavors in life!!

I love how little issues start to surface when I’m organizing, cleaning the house, sketching or doing a puzzle. It never occurred that would be the perfect time to write those things down. Not to analyze them (I’ll get no where with that), but just to bring more awareness of them to the surface. There like creepy little ants that start crawling on you when they think you’re distracted but run and hide as soon as you try to confront them

Many years ago I was suffering from burnout in my graphic design career and I did the Artists Way too. It got me unstuck and drawing again… and reading comics. Eventually I left the industry and went back to school to earn a BFA. I am hoping and praying that someday any story or conversation with your generation will stop being prefaced with- “I was watching a lot of Tik-Toks….” Read a book kids. Read a lot of them.

I forgot all about the artists way until tiktok reminded me of it. Tik tok has been amazing for me to snap out of my artistic burnout. Nothing wrong with using modern tools (just like we are watching and commenting on a video online) . I love interacting with my community on and offline. Social media is great for bringing like minded people together and not everyone lives in a big city with a lot of resources or people that share interests.

I need to go gym early morning before I get hungry. Then I have breakfast before starting page 3. If I do page 3 morning then I'll be hungry I can't go to the gym with my tummy full. I am in a difficult situation gym or page 3

I'm sorry but all the part you said about famous artists of the past been devoted to God because they consider themselves or were considered by others blessed from God with their talent, is maybe usefull to explain the religious obsession the author shows in every page of the book but is quite far from historical reality. Ancient artists, especially the most requested one, were pretty much confidend in their talent not because of God or any holy power the make them the way they were but because of their hard work, the long years of practice "a bottega" under other famous artists and the salary given by rich and powerful patrons both from the political and the religious world. Please remember that religion at the time was just another center of power and the Pope was politically just another "king" interested in to conquest, to make money and to gain more power in any way he could. The only reason why in Italy we have tons and tons of sacred art is just because the Church of Rome was the richest power in the entire world at the time and they could afford artist super expensive like Caravaggio which, incidentally, was as far as a comet in the sky from any religion been himself actually an unrepentant, violent murder.

Your bit about us being creators as creations of God is coincidentally the entire ethos of Tolkien. He wrote a LOT about humanity as “sub-creators” and that creating is not only essential to humanity as a whole, but essential to his own experience of Christian worship, despite never writing religious material.

@@sincerelyheatherlynne it’s somewhere in his letters though I’m not sure where exactly. I was first exposed to it in the first few episodes of The Prancing Pony Podcast, which examines ALL of Tolkien’s work one chapter at a time. Edit: it may actually be in his essay “On Fairy-Stories”
