If this ended up on your front page like mine and you wondered if they managed to eradicate it, no, Covid screwed up that plan and it might be getting worse.

Maybe the people of them Philippines should elect a president who focuses on issues like this instead of handing their country over to a fascist who wants cops to murder drug addicts.

I received the rabies vaccine at age 12, but my nervous system has never recovered from taking it. Be careful about your disposition to handle these vaccines. It doesn't suit every person's immune system.

First of all they should get all animals vaccinated so this doesn't happen. I know there are parts of the phillipeans that has poor areas but there are parts that are not like that. The government should treat everyone to a vaccination. This wouldn't happen then.

Yeah, now tell me there is an almighty, merciful god who created (or allows their existence) terrifying, completely senseless diseases that attack innocent beings. Either he is a sadistic, degenerate lunatic or a complete bungler (er, what is most likely, of course - it does not exist).

I saw two cases of rabies when I was an intern in Los Angeles. I had to gown and mask very heavily for protection against the patients' deadly body fluids. It was horrific thing to see.

Yes, only if they receive it before the symptoms start. But after the symptoms show it's too late. Cost is the issue. Some countries don't charge for the vaccine while others do. Not sure if the Phillipines charge for the vaccine. I know it costs in the United States. $27,000.00 for the 1st and insurance won't cover it. And it takes 7 shots total.

All because most Filipinos do not believe in the dogs yearly shots even if they have the money they will spend it on something else like buying a brand new cellphone. Most Filipinos also do not care about spay and neuter. What they believe in, once the female dog is in heat, they will let out their dogs so it can be "devirginized" and the whole neighborhood will have fun watching the dogs have sex, yes children watch too. They said it is important for a dog to experience motherhood like humans 🙄 and when they could no longer stand having plenty of puppies they give them away as young as one month old or toss the puppies somewhere so the number of strays being added will never go down

Maybe developing a Vaccine that gives life-long (or at least several years long) immunity instead of year by year milking the costumer would solve the problem. But who would kill the golden cow?...so forget about that. As somebody living in the Pi, non registration and non vaccination of dogs might be part of the problem, non-existing knowledge certainly is as well. Dreaming of eradicating the disease by an island is "free of rabies policies" of local authorities they only forget 2 mayor things...bats can fly and rats use ferry ships as much as humans. So they only give a hard time to the pet -owners but never look any further WHY they fail and why the virus springs up here and there again and again...

You know that room is haunted as all get out. Anyone with a brain will know this. Don't believe me just get a Filipino person and let them go undercover with a hidden camera and talked to patients and staff there and they will tell you themselves. Even with all of that proof people will say there is no such thing as ghosts. So you are saying a bunch of employees working there day and night and patients all who have never spoken together or anybody about ghosts as nobody had ever asked them before are all delusional? All their experience are all in their head? If you believe that you are the one who is delusional.

Here in the states we are developing rabies vaccines in edible packets for the local wild life. So far it is only approved for coyotes and raccoons. it would be much much harder to do that for the bats.

My country, where the rabies vaccine was invented more than 100 years ago, has been rabies free since the early 80´s, the only cases we get (one every other year, makes the headlines) are from people having visited other countries. I fail to understand how this vaccine is not mandatory (as it is over here) in the countries that still have rabies.

My mother is a nurse and worked in the Govt program to eradicate rabies. She insisted that if we get a bite or lick or scratch from a known pet, then monitor the dog. If it dies within 10 days then get a vaccine. If it is an unknown dog/cat/stay animal/jungle animal then get vaccinated anyway. India has an excellent drive for rabies prevention under WHO guidance

True burden of rabies in India is not fully known; although as per available information, it causes 18 000-20 000 deaths every year. About 30-65% of reported rabies cases and deaths in India occur in children under the age of 15 years as bites that occur in children often go unrecognized and unreported.

It is no longer able to be said it is 100% fatal. There has been cases of survival, but it's like well over 99% fatal. A minor technicality, but an important one. There is hope that at some point in the future, we will be able to eliminate rabies like we did smallpox, but some new technology and education must be had before we can get it cheap enough to convince the world to do it. Smallpox was a major disease that motivated people to eradicate it. However, the fact that we were able to do it, means we have the capability of making viruses go extinct.

it still is, that coma protocol already have been questioned by professionals as they could not find a correlation between it and rabies. I believe theres was an instance of guy receiving a transplanted organ that had rabies, he only survived because he was vaccinated against it, its important to note that organ transplant require immunosuppresive drugs.

Someone DID recover from rabies, it was a woman who was put in a medically induced coma for many months to give her immune system time to enter the blood brain barrier and fight the rabies virus that entered the brain. Its possible but takes a lot of effort to heal from rabies

As far as I know, there is no vaccine for rabies in humans. The drug given after being bitten is very expensive, and must be given as soon as possible after being bitten. It is a series os injections.

There are (PrEP) vaccinations against rabies for people and these are usually recommended for those living in or traveling to rabies endemic countries and especially to people working with dogs and wildlife. However, even a vaccinated person needs PEP following a bite.
