It's stunning what these drone shots can allow - just spectacular. I could see you and Alan scrambling up to the top of the Courthouse Rock; Phyllis's feet will hurt when I show her this. Think of the time it took for that stream to cut through that mighty dam. Is this Arches? Looks a little too verdant for there.

I'm pretty sure Michael does very little YouTubing. If Luann shows it to him, ha may not think to look at the comments. This was at least his third burn. Maybe his 4th or 5th. These last few years he has established a fair amount of little blue stem. I'm not up on it like when I was younger or I'd be able to say more... You may remember several bags of various seed he had by the door. I'm pretty sure he gathered those last year.@@millergeneral

This is great footage! This fall on the Dix river below the damn while canoeing my father & I came across what we estimate was between 400-600 roosting in the trees along the river. It was a sight to see & I wondered to myself what they would look like in flight? Now I know...

Nancy linked it on Facebook but keywords sometimes get videos in strangers' searches or recommendations. Imagine the rock hauling video will get more views because it mentions the truck make and model. I would get more views if I allowed ads.

Dave, You saw the first ones here many years ago; I think there has been at least one more sighting from our place since. I've seen them twice at Jonathan, none this year. I was up there two days ago--90% frozen, though there was a Peregrine on the flats.

What is the power rating of that turbine and generator? Does it have any electronic controls, or is it operating with its original hydraulic governor and manual synchroscope synchronization?

You can view real-time data at the plant site Mother Ann Lee Hydroelectric Station. Generally 500k watts each, though the nearby Harrington Lake Hydro dam have the same 1920s GE generators but generate several time the power with a 200 ft. head. The controls are from the 70s so probably more electronic.

A great shot. I keep forgetting to ask about the panels, their efficiency, etc. Did you have to climb on them to sweep off the snow? We got maybe an inch, quickly melted from the same system. A mild winter so far. Mike M.
@millergeneral3 жыл бұрын
Used my telescoping pole/window washer to drag most of the snow off. Did it a couple days ago with a bit less snow. With snow on them, they were making 3 watts per panel instead of 300 watts max.

Dave, A fantastic video. I didn't know there could be such a variation in skunk coloring, as with the white one especially. Can there be many such records of skunk fighting? They don't keep at it long; would you say the white one "won"? I have to wonder, when the white one apparently keeps sniffing around, how he could possibly smell, discrinimate anything.
@millergeneral4 жыл бұрын
Guess the smell is not bad for them. Actually, a fair number of people don't think the skunk smell smells bad to them. Not much of a fight since they both just went about their business.

Dave, Apr. 23: We watched the process this morning; I'm even more impressed. Phyllis suggests you make Nancy a stole out of the hide in the fashion of 70 years ago when women wore (in Wickliffe I recall) fox "stoles" to church, where there was a great diversion having their little black glass eyes staring at you during the sermon. The red bud still in bloom in the tractor shot shows how much later your season is than ours--our red buds lost their blooms at least a week earlier. Dogwoods, on the other hand are here still in good form. Ours out the kitchen window had no rust this year and was magnificent. Send your video to the Suncance Festival. I have never seen a bobcat in the wild.

Dave, Much like skinning a squirrel, which I haven't done for sixty years. Done on a somewhat larger scale. What a great video, and I see you got a good use of the new tractor. Dave, I missed this video, watched the panel installation first. Both are just grand, but you work entirely too fast. Your mother said the installation of the top row of panels made her feet hurt. When we get together at a proper time I want to watch both videos with you and have you explain the various steps. I take it you chose a good cool day (Th. the 5th) for at least one of the tasks. I'm awed by it all--how do you do it? Congratulations. The first flight of Nighthawks flew over Tuesday, but very high. Dad

Questions: How did you dig the holes? Why does the focus clear up around 1:49? What are the cylindrical shaped objects at the base of each post that appear also around 1:49? Otherwise, impressive, commendable, and at least you got a little shade. How well do those cement trucks get up the hill? What's next? Dad
@millergeneral5 жыл бұрын
For the holes I used the backhoe attachment on the tractor which is parked in the background. The "focus" was your slow internet loading enough to give you a higher resolution view. The bases are there the whole time. You can select the video resolution by clicking settings at the bottom right of the video. High resolution will take a while to load.
