My portable buddy did the same undulating thing as the flame king making it unusable in temps below 30 degrees F. But hey it works great in the 80 degree Florida winter.

This is wonderful I've been practicing camping in worse and worse weather conditions so now I've been looking into winter camping. Don't want a forever nap. So this video is extremely helpful. Probably gonna get a mobile CO2 monitor that goes off when dangerous so I don't die either 😂

Excellent experiment! Clear method and results. Francesco Redi would be proud of you. I can already see the effects in my backyard swimming pool's new LEDs. They are adjustable, and the red and green lights so far have attracted the least bugs at night. When the white light is on, various bugs just dive-bomb into the water. (Skimming them out is an annoyance). Not seeing that so far with the red or green.

The little buddy was Canadian trucker freedom convoy tested for 23 days in my hummer. You need a usb powered fan and I suggest building a stand. There is videos of different builds for your situation. I used mine exactly as you had your in the passenger. 1.5 inch crack in the windows keeps the air clean and still holds the heat. 🚛🇨🇦🚛🇨🇦🚛🇨🇦🚛🇨🇦🚛🇨🇦🫡

??? No mention of the Flame King thermostat feature.... Yes, it is not built as well. Agreed. However, having a working thermostat vs no thermostat is a major difference IMO.

I use the buddy heater with a 20lb tank, stainless hose and the 'filter' in my garage. It runs 96 hours on the low setting, and I get the tank refills for $10.99 at my local true value store. Better than kerosene heaters for sure

How the Mr Heater low oxyben sensor works (from my understnading). If propane is completely burned, the byproducts of that burning is CO2 + H2O. If incomplete combustion occurs due to low oxygen level, then CO is and added byproduct. That indicates to me that the heater is faulty. In the Mr Heater Buddy heater, there's no actual low oxygen sensor. It's actually a venturi that allows a limited amount of air (O2) into the pilot light circuit. Just enough O2 that's equivalent to the O2 levels at and below 7000 ft. The pilot light needs a certain amount of O2 to contiue buring (at least 16% O2 which is equivalent to aobut 7000 ft elevation. Above that, the pilot light wanes and goes out due to the lack of O2 through the pilot venturi. The pilot light heats a thermostatic valve that keeps the propane flowing. If the pilot light goes out, the valve closes and shuts off the flow of propane. You'll see in the owner's manual that the altitude limitation is 7000 ft. If you get any CO, there's a defect that needs to be addressed.

You spent money on heaters, but what gives you the qualifications to be the judge of which heater is good or not. It’s just your personal opinion and that’s one thing but if you try to be an expert on this, it’s BS grifter.

No real man should ever be trapped in a tent. If you don’t have a pocket knife on you…man card revoked. If you don’t have your knife by your sleeping bag while camping…revoked!

It appears an electric blanket under your sleeping bag (or better, inside) with solar setup ia the best solution than a propane heat option. Not without its potential issues of burning up but thats if the coils get smooshed to create a short. I plan to test a 150W electric heater in my rooftop tent as i think slow and steady is better than fast, high btu output without a thermostat in the such a small space. Thank you.

I have both the flame king and portable buddy. The flame king has a thermostat, which I thought would be a great feature, but does tend to make the flame flutter like that when it's trying to keep the output low. I end up mostly using the buddy, but not all night. In the end, it's better to just get a good sleeping bag and then only use the heater to keep you warm while getting dressed in the morning.

For those who does not have the luxury of large open free space. How about using one of those dryer safe mesh bags? Providing your tent isn’t so huge and you can find a large enough mesh bag? Than use lowest or air only mode in your dryer? I think this will totally be safe

Yeah... it was in such a different category because it was electric. I tried it out.... and it doesn't have any emissions or anything--but it also doesn't have any safety features. It also doesn't get that hot... I dunno, I suppose in a very small tent it might work. I think another video on electric heaters would probably be better.

Add an inexpensive Thermal Fan to the Portable Buddyand the circulation is instantly better. I have 3 of them, one of them being the bigger version and I have found them to be great. The one thing I am sure all of these suffer from is trying to light them when it is really cold outside.

My friend uses the little Mr Heater in his tent during hunting season. The bottle sits in half of a cinder block. This really minimizes the tipping factor. He puts a thin blanket over his tent that has a hole in the center. Dome tent. Does a pretty good job.

To be fair, if you tip over in a golf cart... it isn't exactly "gentle". Golf Carts sway a lot so having a more violent activated sensor is purpose built for the drunk guys on Sundays. Still sketchy though.

I never understand these videos, what is the difference between using this heater, and using propane to cook with in your home? My grandparents always had propane stove and heat (literally open flame) and never was an issue? Are you testing that propane is not leaking or are you testing will it kill you or not? Thats why even after I watch the videos I am baffled and what people are trying to prove when propane is burned in homes by millions on a daily basis. The O2 sensor probably kicks in at 70 ppm, that the actually limit that CO2 sensors will alarm.

Good questions. I proved through my testing that some heaters actually will cause a build up of carbon monoxide--If your tent is not vented properly, you could die. It's not an easy way to die--you're more likely to set your tent on fire to be honest. As far as your kitchen goes -- your kitchen has a vent and your house is a much bigger space. It's really about concentration of gas, not quantity. It's a good reference point but not apples to apples. All in all, I think the carbon monoxide is a scary silent killer that gets all the attention, but isn't the biggest problem. I know people had questions about it so I thought I'd try and see how bad it really was. And... I learned the risk is non-zero. So... yeah.

I heat my tent up a bit which takes very little time, turn the heater off and then go to sleep. In the morning I light the heater off while still in my sleeping bag and when the tent is warm, I get up. No need to have the heater on all night if you are dressed properly and have a decent bag.

I disconnected the tip feature on my Buddy heater. I need to move it around the tent from time to time and it’s frustrating to have to relight it every time. I can’t imagine a scenario where I would tip the thing over and start my tent on fire and not know it immediately. I’m pretty sure the tip prevention feature is legal protection for the manufacturer and nothing more.
