This makes playing a Mishima character 10x easier, so from that perspective, I would pursue any avenue that would allow me to use a scheme like this as opposed to just trying to get good at the standard scheme. From a legality perspective, I have no idea what hurdles you will run into. The official rulings are vague enough that it could go either way. The only way to definitively get clearance to use it at your local scene is to ask the tournament organizer if they are cool with it. But if they are old school, uninformed, overly cautious, or someone else complains after a salty loss, they might tell you that you can't use it, regardless.

I can understand on steam since the Steam Input is there but how would it work for people trying to play on PS5 at there locals with a leverless.

Yes! You can make it feel better by changing the way you think about the hellsweep input. When wavedashing you are going back and forth between qcf on your left hand and forward on you right hand. Always back and forth, left right left right, etc. so when you want to do hellsweep, just do the left hand motion, but instead of rolling to forward, hold down-forward then press right kick with you right hand instead of tapping forward. So it is just a small modification of the left hand right hand motion you were doing before. From standing, don't try to do the DP motion with you left hand alone, just do one rep of the wavedash version. In otherwords, tap forward with your right hand, go into the qcf motion with your left hand but hold down forward instead of rolling it, then tap right kick with your right hand.

Hmm, I'm getting several replies saying similar things. First, I would turn on input display in T8 and check exactly what inputs the game is registering. If you do the input forward, neutral, down-forward + 2, you will get crouch jab with any character other than Kazuya. You do need to leave at least 1 frame between pressing down with you left hand and pressing forward + 2 with your right hand. Try that, if it doesn't work, then I would start looking for other conflicts. left + right becomes neutral, so if the game is somehow registering both those inputs at the same time then that could be causing the issue.

And when I use the "A" button for left stick right, it will go right, HOWEVER when I use the movement input keys on my left hand and try to crouch and walk forward, I will only crouch and walk forward. If I use any of the movement keys on the left side of the hitbox, none of the movement keys on the right side will register at all. Do you have a fix for this?

@@markkirollos4437 I've sorta figured something out. The hitbox that Im using registers the movement default keys as the Joystick. I needed to set the addtional inputs you added to the Dpad instead in order to do them.

Hmm, I'm not exactly sure how you managed that. Hardware SOCD cleaning should only apply to buttons that were already directional input buttons on your controller. Regardless, Tekken has internal cleaning that always cancels opposing directions to neutral. I have demonstrated in the video that DPad down + remapped LS <- or -> should combine to df. If you somehow managed to map certain buttons to multiple directions at the same time, then you might end up triggering software SOCD unintentionally. It is also possible that the tournament mode on your device is VERY strict about left stick use. it is possible that it completely disables the DPAD during left stick use, which would make this remap not possible. You could still remap additional DPAD directions for identical functionality, though.

make sure you have it updated it to the latest firmware then press start when plugging in the haute leverless which will then put it into web mode you can then do pin edit mode to change pins, press pin selection button and press the button you want to change, it will then tell you the number of said button, go down and change the button to DDi left or right respectively to the side you want on which button

side note before changing anything you will want to back up your controller, also you should map the ~ button to function and create a function + button to change controller profiles, so if per-say you play other fighting games and you do not want movement buttons then you can swap between the r3 l3 button layout vs the directional inputs

the layout is legal, but I believe your controller has to be built correctly for it to be legal. if you modify yours to simply duplicate inputs on another button or force the hardware to read X as D-PAD LEFT then it isn't legal. but if you have those extra buttons assigned as being cardinal directions emulating the analog stick inputs then I think it's legal.

note that this is in regards to EVO, for CPT you can't have analog inputs emulated by a button or lever (which is only relevant for street fighter but still).

Yep, I was a bit sloppy in the video. I've been working on cleaning it up since then. Main angle of this layout is ergonomics, but I can definitely get them tighter as well. Quick question: As you may have alluded to, can the leading forward input of the wavedash be buffered out of blockstun?

@@markkirollos4437 No, it cannot, but yes in a way also😂. It can be held and released on the second active frame, but that's not going to happen consistently.

I gave away my PS5 to my brother, who lives in a different state, so I can't personally test it. I'm not sure, but there might be a built in remapping feature somewhere in the PS5 settings. You could always just buy a dedicated Tekken hitbox and rewire multiple buttons to the DPad, but that has a more dubious legality despite being exactly the same in functionality.

You have 4 options: 1) Use Steam to remap your controller. 2) Use Keyboard and map the keys in Tekken 8 3) Physically rewire your hitbox 4) By an adapter that will allow you to remap your controller for console. I'm not sure if Playstation lets you map Left Stick directions to face buttons, if so that is your 5th option. Gonna make a video demonstrating how to set everything up on PC and some more tips and tricks that I discovered in the last week.

I usually like characters that focus more on offense than defense. I was thinking about playing Hwoarang or Reina, but honestly this game has so many system mechanics and things you have to learn about the opponent's characters to be effective that I felt I needed to play a character with a simple but strong gameplan. I enjoy labbing almost more than playing and the Mishimas still have tons of stuff to lab so I won't get bored.

@markkirollos4437 well I don't know if this is true or not, I was told that Steve has some of the best offense in the game. I have yet to choose a main and have like 2hours so I don't know how factual this is tho

Switched back to hitbox because I found some techniques that allow for faster inputs. Keyboard is still really good because the feedback from the mechanical switches makes it easier to time key presses a precise number of frames apart. I'll make a video comparing the two and include how to set everything up on PC plus some new inputs I found that are even better.

If you are on Steam you can click the controller symbol while on the game tab and then you can map it however you want. For console I think your hitbox/controller has to have its own way or software to reassign buttons.

@@LALEDLOL Really? It lets me do it no problem. You can bind movement inputs multiple times. So again I go to the game tab and then click on the controller symbol. Then I go to edit layout. There dont seem to be any restrictions. The left stick movement directions are there to select as well but you can use for example dpad left mutliple times so yeah. You can also do this with attack buttons shown in this video. So square/X went to x/A and x/A went to circle/B and circle/B went to R2/RT.

@Mcmonday117 @Dragonborn32 If you want to do it in game (on PC) without any external remapping, then you can play on keyboard and map the Left Stick directions to right hand keys. If you want to use controller, then you will need to use Steam or reWASD to remap your controller. If you are on console, then you will need to buy an adapter that will let you remap face buttons, or you will need to rewire your hardware internally.

It depends on the rulings. This should be legal in online PC and crossplay tournaments because you can assign Left Stick directions to keyboard buttons from Tekken 8's button mapping feature without using any hardware modifications. The game does not, however, give you the option to assign Left Stick directions to face buttons when using a controller, leading me to believe that the developers want to discourage these techniques. If you want to play at EVO or major tournaments, then I would wait for clarification. If you want to play online tournaments and locals, then you should be fine considering this is already possible on keyboard.

This is as much cheating as people that have been using pad techniques with dpad and analog stick combinations for over a decade. If you're also for banning pad users that combine analog and dpad for shortcuts than I can sympathise with that opinion.@@Sprong4

the layout is legal, however the method by which it's achieved determines the legality of the controller itself. having the hardware spoof or duplicate inputs is illegal but for most tournaments the rules can be summed up as "one input per button". if there was a hitbox with this same layout but those extra movement buttons were assigned to analog stick cardinal directions it would be legal, outside of CPT which I believe bans assigning analog inputs to levers or buttons.
