I was homeless for 6 years in the Sonoran desert and I think this was the tent I used my tent was called the camp an 1 I believe but looks exactly the same as your tent. I found the tent to be very very good, very water proof in monsoons, and very easy to carry, i did cover my tent with a tarp for added protection from UV, and the weather, but I would definitely buy this tent again if I went homeless again, especially since I called the desert my home, and slept out in the desert, almost 100% of the time. The tent is a good size I’m 5ft 8, and would use my back rest on, and during monsoons I had enough room to take in my backpack into the tent, abet a little tight but doable. Overall I went through about 7 tents , and this tent was the most water proof, durable of the bunch, highly recommend it.

Do you still use this tent? My big issue is that the Velcro loops that hold the rain fly onto the poles are glued not sewn on and simply detached. I would like to sew them back on but don’t know exactly where. Dangerous if rain fly fails at wrong time and not very sustainable if I end up having to throw it away.
@WasatchWill4 ай бұрын
You could sew them to some scrap pieces of nylon or silnylon. Then glue them on with a dab of silicone. Or you could straight sew them back on and then just seam seal the threads on the outside of the fly with a silicone seam sealant. You can buy some made by Gear Aid at a local rec shop or online or just Google how to seal seal with a DIY solution (50/50 Silone caulk and mineral spirits). I too have this tent and still use it on my desert trips when sleeping alone, but haven't had it in a torrential rain storm yet. This all has me thinking I should probably seam seal the seams on the bathtub floor given the experience of the guy in the video here.

@@WasatchWillthe actual Velcro straps are sewn onto small rectangles of fabric. This is how the 4 Velcro straps and the 2 “anchors” for the rain fly doors are attached. These rectangles are then glued to the rain fly. The glue used by the manufacturer failed easily IMO. I don’t know which kind of glue will hold so I will sew all the detached pieces to the rain fly and water seal as appropriate. Hopefully I just got a bad one and yours is fine.

@@leslieyoung5234 Yeah. I'll have to inspect mine more closely again and keep an eye on it. Thanks. It's been a while but gonna be using it again next month and just stumbled into this video after looking up something to compare it with another tent a friend of mine is selling that I was considering. Wouldn't be much of an upgrade after all though over this one. In fact, probably a bit of a downgrade.

So true, I was set on buying the Kona sutra SE but I tried it and I found it so uncomfortable. I then tried the Fuji touring ltd and it was a dream. The most comfortabke ride ever.

Good to see a young rider using a full frame pump. More than one time I have stopped to help a rider on the side of the road or trail with a pocket-sized pump or CO2 cartridge that did not fill the tire. In the past year I have switched over to stainless steel water bottles. I carry one pint and one liter bottles. Check out the new bottle holders that hold 1.5 liter and one liter water bottles. The water tastes so much better than plastic bike bottles. I pick double walled like new Stainless steel bottles at the Goodwill for $2. New $25 to $35.

So the Death Ridge section killed the trip? That was the hard 4th day when I rode the loop. I started on the North section, South of Escalante. I was hoping your video captured all those hills. It was endless, hard, exhausting, and my favorite part of the 160 mile ride. I lost my 3 liter water bladder too, which made the last 20 miles particularly difficult. Thanks for sharing the video.

I saw your other, group ride video. And this one it looks like you were able to get a hike and bike site. Curious, is there a maximum of the nights you can stay at a time at the Hike & Bike site? 1 night only? 7 nights straight?

Awesome Video! Curious: 1. The train ride: Where were you able to put your bikes? Do they go next to your seats? Underneath somewhere? In a separate car? And was that the Amtrak "surfliner" or ?? 2. The 2 Hike & Bike sites: is there a maximum of the nights you can stay at a time? 1 night only? 7 nights straight? I realize you guys were forced to get a regular campsite. But I'm curious about the hike and bike site limit.

One car hack I love is to go to the dealership and get a spare key (or a couple!) made that doesn’t have the chip in it. Less than $10 each. Won’t start the car, but I can still open the door. From day one I hide the second (pricey) “chipped” key in the car. If I’m going somewhere iffy - kayaking, water water rafting, the beach, hiking, etc - I take the $10 non-chip key and leave the $150 key under the floor mat or whatever. (Also put a non chip key in a Hide-a-key as another layer of protection.) That way if I lose the $10 key or it gets wet or whatever, no big deal. Can still get into the car and can still drive it. Less bulky too. You do lose the push button “opener” and actually unlock the car with this method, but way worth it to me.

Schon befremdlich. Before you buy, look Amazon Lumos Kickstart, you should look at the article with approx. 1225 ratings to see what happens to the helmet in the rain. Photos can be seen. If I had looked before, mine has the same problem. If the manufacturer does not accept anything. Already strange.
