Are any of you organs near the Boston Ma or Manchester NH area?
@Piping_Up3 күн бұрын
Not yet, unfortunately. Everything is paid out of pocket since there is currently no income. We are hoping to travel further in the near future.

Hi Stephen, is the organist here in this, Eugene Hopkins, a fan of Virgil Fox's work? I noticed one of the pieces played in this, is a Fox arrangement.
@Piping_Up12 күн бұрын
It is a Virgil Fox arrangement! I don't know if Eugene is a fan but I definitely am. I was happy that his arrangement was played

Usually on three manual organs if they need a larger reed rank (usually a tuba) they will put it in the choir so that it can be used in contrast with the great and swell choruses. It’s not unusual at all and is definitely the best division to put it in for a three manual organ!
@Piping_Up17 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I always thought that was saved for the swell and not the choir.

Fabulous organ but even more fabulous organist - I am a Mark Laubach fan from way back. He played for our wedding and I took lessons with him for awhile. This organ is magnificent and so is Mark. Thank you for this lovely program.

St. Stephen's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral is in fact in Wilkes-Barre, not Scranton. 35 South Franklin Street Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701 It is my honor to be the priest in this incredible parish and work as colleagues with this very gifted musician who is also my dear friend.
@Piping_UpАй бұрын
Thank you for pointing it out! We had updated it in the video description. We realized our mistake after we uploaded the video. But yes, Wilkes Barre and not Scranton. Filming at several locations in the area was stressful.

I was the interim organist until John returned! I subbed for Myron Leet, the long-time music minister before he retired, and still continue to sub at this church. It also was the venue for my 2 recitals when I was a student at Wilkes College (now Wilkes University.)

Please explain the difference between equal temperment and Fisk II temperament
@Piping_UpАй бұрын
The difference between Equal Temperament and Fisk II Temperament is about how the notes are tuned on a pipe organ: Equal Temperament: Every note is spaced evenly, making all keys sound the same. It works well for modern music because you can switch keys without any notes sounding out of tune. Fisk II Temperament: The notes aren’t spaced evenly. Some keys sound really nice and pure, while others sound more tense or slightly off. This tuning was common in older music to give different keys their own unique character.
