This song was originally written about the chronic fighting since 2014 with Russian-backed separatists in their homeland of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, but it has an even greater emotional impact since psychopath Putin's all-out invasion in February 2022.

Such a epic song, but it still breaks me knowing what they have been (and still are )going through. They are some of the kindest and most humble people you could ever hope to meet and that makes the song hit even harder. Great reaction!

The war between Russia and Ukraine didn't start in 2022. It started in 2014. When Russia occupied Crimea and part of Donbass. In 2022, it escalated into a full-scale war.

Sorry to hear you haven't been well, hope you're fully recovered soon. Three quarters of Jinjer are from Donestsk in the East of Ukraine which was essentially occupied by Russia (or at least Russian backed forces) in 2014 - they were forced from their homes then and this song is about that

They've been dealing with this from 2014 when they were driven from their homes by Russia backed separatists. For them, the war has been going nearly 10 years. They are from Eastern Ukraine, where "civil war" had been a part of their lives for far too long.

What's fucking crazy is that I had a bad trip on shrooms and went into psychosis the SAME DAY they dropped this song, and I saw it when I got home from the hospital that night. So weird that they released a song with these lyrics on the same day.

I'm amazed to see that you haven't covered Home Back yet. It's a brilliant, intense, technical piece with a wonderful surprise lounge jazz interlude in the middle & a brutally heavy ending. The Official Music Video perfectly captures the lyrical subject matter, which is in itself very heavy, being about how war brutalizes & destroys child-like innocence. The song was written in the aftermath of the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea & support of militant separatists in the Donbass region of Ukraine, where 3 of the 4 band members are from (the drummer being from the Kiev region). The 2021 Live at Hellfest performance is superb!

In this live performance, some of the clean vocals are supplemented by backing tracks, & there's some kind of high-pitched echoing sound effect at the transition at about 4:18 to 4:20 (of your video) that is probably in a backing track. Other than that, this is fully live. I think that we fans appreciate that the live sound is more dynamic / uncompressed than the studio version. I find this most noticeable on the drums & vocals. Also, the live growls are just incredibly good throughout this performance, especially during the doomy section from about 3:30 (of your video) through the end of the track. I mean *really unbelievably* good. This band is a great subject for double features in which you react to the official music video (studio track) & a live performance. Off hand, I'm not sure what you've already reacted to, but here's a list of suggested double features: "Home Back" official + live at Hellfest 2021 (no audience due to COVID) "Ape" official + one-shot live "Vortex" official + live at Hellfest 2021 (no audience due to COVID) "I Speak Astronomy" official + live at Summer Breeze 2018 "Sit Stay Roll Over" official + live in Melbourne "On the Top" official + live in Kiev "Captain Clock" official lyric video + live at Resurrection Fest 2018 "Cloud Factory" official + official live "Who is Gonna Be The One" official live is, IMO, better than the studio track in *every way,* but there's not even a lyric video to go with the studio track. Still, it's good to hear the studio track first for comparison.

Just an observation…you seem to be looking for problems. Being truthful is important..but you know that 95% of the people clicking on a Jinjer reaction vid are Jinjer fans..right? So maybe look on the bright side of things and not seem to be off put by things like, you know, it sounding as good as the studio version. Prob they’re just not you cup of tea.

I would suggest to get the spectrum I get the feeling you're looking for, maybe go back in time to when they were fresher, newer, less experienced, and then work your way through to the present when they have all the equipment, lots of experience, and have are being presented as a proper high-end band. Go back to Sit Stay Rollover, Outlander, Scissors, Just Another...do the same comparison...I will bet you will not only see that gap between studio and live but get acclimated to their sound and be able to distinguish their growth from where they were to where they are...I also believe that when you do that, and you get to hear this track again, live...or maybe Vortex live...you will have that much more of an appreciation for just how amazingly talented this band and every member of it, is.

I'm 100% with you. Who Is Gonna Be The One live is better that the studio in *every way* IMO, but in most cases, the best live recording may have parts or moments or aspects that exceed the studio, but others that are exceeded by the studio.
