Very interesting and well done video. Just information, no spin on the facts.

Amazing that that technology was available in the 1940's. Just wow. The complexity of submarines boggles the mind.

My father reached Maikop and Ortschenikidje. By that time from his company of originally 220 men, there were only 21 left. Then he was seriously wounded there, 2nd time. Later in Goldap East Prussia a 3rd time. He survived later the war and passed on at age 75.....40 years after the end of the war.

What exactly was "winterkraftstoff"? Is it equivalent to modern winter gasoline that is high in volatile compounds to aid in cold weather starting?

I'm pretty sure I have seen a beutepanzer KV 1 with German cupola and main gun long 75mm. That would be a mini Tiger in 41/42

Very early on in the war, the Soviets shifted their strategic manufacturing to the east of the Urals, where there was plenty of coal and iron ore. So the steel production, casting, forging, and subsequent engine and power train was done there and these were then shipped to assembly plants, including tractor, train etc factories in the west. Quality control was extremely low or lacking altogether and the crew were mainly from the eastern republics who had never driven a vehicle before! From the factories the new tanks were shipped by rail to their tank regiments, where the crew were allocated a few rounds of ammo to practice, the driver to learn to drive and film reels of camoflage and ambush tactics followed by......reels and reels of communist propaganda and the need to 'defend the motherland'. Except for the commander, their tanks had no radio, so every man, woman and dog were on their own! They relied more on frontal assaults, a field take it head on, a village, town head on. The Germans on the other hand carried out proper recon, coalation of intel and probing of weak points.🌿

It was good option because Schmalturm-F had with 75mmL70 at the same turret-ring as Panther-1 turret. Panthers_2 & F can use first turret for previous Panthers G-A-D and Panther1-G got Schmalturm. In other hand Daimler-Benz panzer_V had smaller turret's ring and can't used both Panther turrets.

The Red Army also used captured German armour in similar numbers: Pz.I -1 Pz.II -3 Pz.III - 112 Pz.IV - 38 Pz.V - 14 Pz.VI - 7 Pz.38t - 11 Stug.III - 27 Wespe - 1 Hummel - 8 Nashorn - 6 Armoured halftracks - 26 It also includes an entire independent armoured battalion formed on 32 captured Hungarian armoured vehicles. Perhaps most significantly, 201 Stug.IIIs were reconfigured with Soviet guns.

It's a shame that there was so much indifference to 'war machinery' after WW2. Understandable in the circumstances, but ponder how many superb exhibits there would be to see now if there had been more forethought - ! 😊

They had no chance. If there were not west allies the eastern front will end up and exhaust in draw. But opening up the front in the south 1943(italy), bonding 40 of divisions shifted from the east gave russians huge advantage. The normandy landing ending up all hopes they have had. There were no chances to fight againist the biggest industrial power in the world(usa) relying only on romanian oil resources placed near the other enemy(russia) you have opened front. The syndrome of too-short-blanked.

Blocking the Volga river alone would have stopped the transportation of 85% of Russian oil. The problem for the Russian army at the start of the 1942 summer campaign,.Really came down to the exception of a renewed attack on Moscow. The battles around the Rzhev that are largely forgotten, taking place at the same time. Depriving the Six Army of replacements. But this wasn't the only problem for the Germans at this time. They were in the midst of tremendous problems with logistics, made worse with the oil reserves running dry in late 1941. Thats the reason why only Army Group South was on the march in 42. But in the end they still lacked the fuel to keep the momentum going, stopping and starting all the way to the Valga....
