Thanks for the effort but that was a very sketchy set up. Guard should be tight to the material being cut to ensure all energy is used to cut not make the material jump about. And what is more important than speed is longevity of blade. You were running the saw way o fast for not adding any lubricant and that kills the teeth quickly. We cut out cast iron plumbing pipe, usually 4" and lots of 2"-2 1/2" galvanized daily. For what its worth the Diablo Carbide is worth the $15 per blade but you have to take care of it. Have a helper spraying lubricant (oil or WD-40) & the blade will last 20 times longer. Slow down the cut also. Yes, it's nice to pull the trigger at full speed but HEAT/FRICTION kills these. 1 blade per job or 6 ? You do the math. We use Diablo but Milwaukee is comparable in our real day to day experience. Thank you for the comparison

Other testing channels have always shown multiple cuts by the same blade ( usually three) in the same media and that’s where you see the carbide blades sow their worth the metal blades show drop off on each successive cut while the carbide blades stay the same or sometimes get slightly quicker. For someone trying to do a days work you cannot be changing blades every 2-3 cuts so that’s where a carbide blade shines through

.I was hoping for more curves and circles and jigsaw work and then comparing the quality of the cuts and how square they were . Not sure why you only did speed cutting. I don't think I've ever wished for a faster cross cutting jigsaw but maybe that's just me. Either way definitely a unique video.
@contractorscompass3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! You're right I should have included circle cutting. I was trying to illustrate how the mafell has plenty of power for cutting thicker wood when compared to a regular jigsaw. But that is just what I bought my mafell jigsaw for.
@tropicalstorm3393 ай бұрын
Carbide blades are not designed or made to cut faster. They are designed/made to cut thicker/harder steel and should last longer than simple steel blades.

Good box, we use this style in the aviation world. I preferred the stacks, especially for junkyard visits. One thing I've encountered is that small boxes with wheels tend to catch on gravel due to not having clearance. So ive switch to the Tstak system. I have the tstak dolley with the tstak toolbag. I did this because the foam robs you of space.
@contractorscompass3 ай бұрын
Yeah the foam definitely takes up space but I feel like the organization that it provides is worth it. The wheels do tend to be a bit undersized for rougher terrain.

The Diablo isn't 50-100x better they have 50-100x the life. Those cheap blades after a few cuts get dull then your popping in a fresh one. One of the amped would be like getting 50-100 of the cheap ones.
@andrewavellino64274 ай бұрын
U should test longest lasting blades. I think most of us care more about longevity of the blade far more than cut speed, I know I'd rather have a blade that last 100s of cuts rather than one that cuts a few seconds faster but only last 20 cuts

But i did get a carbontoothed or whatever 50x blade. I had destroyed two old school blades making two small cuts out of 20 long cuts i made in my hot tub i was demo-ing and the single new blade finished the job perfectly with what seemed like a as new blade.

As far as the depth on the blades go I've used them for doing undercuts on door jambs for flooring. I also cut holes in 3/4 plywood for outlets and what not. For me most cuts are under an inch depth. I am more concerned if the blade cuts straight and not veer off like I saw some in this test do. In that case the longer blade might deflect more so I would go shorter. Thank you for the video.
@contractorscompass5 ай бұрын
Thats a good point. Its super annoying when the blade does cut straight. It really depends on the application that the blade is being used for. I favor the slightly longer blades because I am often making deeper cuts.
@markfritz3155 ай бұрын
Could the slower blades be from the sawdust not clearing out of the cut? The wood after the cut looks like a lot of sawdust is stuck to the off cut. Since you are doing a 3.5 inch cut I wonder how the times would change if you turn the wood 90 degrees and cut on the 1.5 inch side.
@contractorscompass5 ай бұрын
That's a good question. The sawdust could be slowing down the blade.

I believe the carbide blades are meant for metal, but can also do wood. There are wood blades that always seem to be longer. That said, the Hercules and Bauer carbide blades are quite good, and also long.
@contractorscompass6 ай бұрын
Yeah, they are definitely targeted towards metal heavy cutting. In my experience the Hercules and Bauer blades have not been able to keep up, but I will have to try them again.

@contractorscompass I recommend watching the project farm video on the blades too. It's a little older. I was glad to see the Nitrus tested against others in your video. Diablo is always strong. My Nitrus experience was that the blade is aggressive and very fast on metal, like stainless steel and drywall screws, but lacking in durability.

idk if the fastest cutting determines the best blade. how many cuts will they make? how long can they make a cut until they overheat?

Definitely other factors to consider. However, I feel like if a blade doesn't cut quickly when it is new then it certainly doesn't get any better with more cuts.

Nice comparison:) I think that reason for blades being faster with nails is purely because first run scraped that paint coat off thus showing that fresh and shap metal tooth for second run. Some blades might be painted with quite heavy coat of paint so it will definetly slow down first run:)

I’ve had situations where the top layer of the plywood came off not the glue joint. Cool set up for testing
