OMG it brings me back to my Father's funeral and the Marines that where his honor guard. He passed in January and the day of his funeral was cold and windy I could see how challenging it was to fold the flaf under the Conditions like that. They did a great job of being an honor guard for him. I am thankful for them being there to honor him and for the compassion they showed us. Semper Fi

This make look easy, but it's not. I got my uncle's internment flag from the post office today. Laid it out on the bed and followed the directions. It took me four times watching the video, and about eight tries. I finally got the flag folded. .The crucial step is when you get to the blue star field. If the edge of your triangular fold is not half way to the star, start over, there won't be enough tuck room.

technical question: I need to refold my father-in-laws flag to get the stars to line up before I put it in the flag box I built. Some vids show the first fold having the corners line up. Some, there is an overhang of about 2" on the first fold, like this vid. What is the overhang for? Does it make the stars line up better when completed? Or is this more ceremonial? Why the difference between the 2 ways?

The edges should not meet. That is the first technique to help ensure that the red of the stripes is hidden. Having the top and bottom edges meet is asking for trouble.

As a member of a VFW Memorial Team, I have folded and presented over 500 burial flags. These videos are by far the best flag folding videos on KZbin. I strongly recommend you view all 3 parts. All the tips they give are good ones, and I promise you will use them all. Thank you for taking the time to make and post these videos.

This video needed an overhead shot, i.e., an angle that showed what the folder was doing.

Shouldn't the stars be showing, always displaying a widows peak, with 4 stars, 2 stars, then one star at the top corner?

From what I've learned as long as the flag is folded in a way that does not show any red it is properly folded.

Great video. I have a question about flag code, but not folding it. My father was a Vietnam Vet, and made it back alive state side. Unfortunately, he and my mother were later divorced. When my father died suddenly of a brain aneurysm, I was considered next of kin (daughter). However, my mother took the flag and used it for parties and such. She's recently passed away. My father died in 1983, and my mother has treated the flag very poorly. Since I have his flag now, I'd like to clean it, but dry cleaning it is not going to work for it. How should I clean it, while giving it the proper respect that it has earned?

You need to contact the VA because you are the rightful next of kin. And tell them the condition of the flag as well. If you know of your local American Legion post, start there and get information.

Buck Dempsey Thank you very much for your kind reply, Mr. Dempsey. I was beginning to think no one would ever see my question. I'll contact the American Legion in my town. If they can't advise me on how to, or provide proper cleaning for it, maybe I'll contact the VFW. Either way sir, thank you again.
