Yes, it is expensive but so is damage done on a trailer valued in the $100 thousand dollar range by hitting a wall from inability to see well backing into tight spaces. I was backing my 100 grand boat into its space and hit a shelf gouging the side of my boat because I didn’t see it well when backing in. It happens at times. With this, I can move it while viewing it from the back or sides using the remote control. I was hesitant but knew sooner or later, I would get complacent and do damage, so I bit the bullet.

@DaleStagg Understood. I have a slightly longer 5er and put it thru a 12' x 14' overhead door. So, I get it! I bought a backhoe-loader a few years ago to maintain our property with and it has a fork attachment that I made a ball adapter for to fit the Goosebox. So, off-season, I can swing the 5er up against the building wall like you're doing.
@DaleStagg
@DaleStagg 11 ай бұрын
@@robv4053 that will work. Yes, backing in isn’t bad with truck but to get boat out, I needed to back in and swing the front end sideways and this does it well as well as your setup would be even easier or as easy. My local rv repair shop does theirs with a forklift which is similar to yours. Fast and easy.
@DaleStagg

Just to assist, this past week, I added painted lines to the concrete to follow exactly to put trailer in exact location every time using the marked lanes. I put a curb in the back side also to stop where needed and gives me a couple of feet to spare in the back to prevent backing into back wall. My building is 50 deep on exterior side and my trailer is 42 foot in length, so not a lot of extra room. I now with I had built my building another 10 foot longer and another two foot wider doorway and I would not have needed my machine.
@robv4053
@robv4053 11 ай бұрын
@DaleStagg I did the same with lines! I tried a curb stop - my barn also has limited length to spare - but it pushed easily on my polished slab and I didn't want to drill it. I got clever and wired a driveway alarm switch (laser-reflector) and ditched the chime and use it to trigger an electric trumpet horn. Works great for me!

Big enough motor to lift? Try oiling the door sides to insure no binding. Check the sensors to insure nothing blocking from lowering? Start by lubricating the door on each side track. Grease or oil to verify it can move freely. Check the sensitivity of door opener and adjust to allow heavier doors. They can be set sensitive and needs to adjust to lift heavier loads.

how is this still working, 5 years later? in case you didn't know, the digital screen on that tach is Liquid Crystal Display, or LCD. A liquid crystal display only needs any type of current when the display changes to another number. When it is just sitting there, the current it takes to keep display "lit" is very very minimal. But I do like your mechanical meter.

Do you think this could work on a 6’ roll up door or is there a minimum length for the belt drive? Do you need to add any additional weight to the bottom of the door? Debating on trying this instead of ordering a roll up door with the built in motor because then I’d have WiFi functionality for open/close on the shed.

It's a shame that such an expensive hitch would require diy rigging and fiddling to hich up.
@DaleStagg
@DaleStagg 2 жыл бұрын
It really only because my driveway angle is much more than my garage which is level that creates the issue. If hooking up in other locations, it is not really needing to do this. Either way, the driving experience makes up for the issue. Driving with this hitch is so much better and safer. I have driven in circumstances where sway would have occurred but never with this hitch.
@tkilg7169

@@DaleStagg Thanks. I've got two WD hitches, and still feel a little uneasy with the movement. I was thinking about the ProPride, but It's hard to imagine that it would be 3.5 times better than my Weigh Safe or my Andersen......since it is 3.5 times the cost of the Weigh Safe and 7 times as much as the Andersen. I know safety is worth more money, but they do seem overpriced.
@DaleStagg
@DaleStagg 2 жыл бұрын
@@tkilg7169 yes, I thought the same way when I got into this. However, I was pulling one day and all was great when I got into an opening with no trees and the wind hit me at the side and I got into a sway that scared me bad and had my wife and young grand daughter with me. Upon getting to my camping spot, I called and started investigating these at that time. Sway bars help control sway to an extent but these expensive hitches eliminate the sway at the source and not control the sway. I have never felt sway since and drive at normal freeway speeds in wind and trucks and never felt sway. I can drive one handed and feel comfortable doing so. For me, the price was worth it but do understand. Be safe! I would do it again in a minute if needed. My trailer is a V Nose which requires the straps vs normal system which is easier 5o connect without my strap method when at awkward angles.
@tkilg7169
@tkilg7169 2 жыл бұрын
@@DaleStagg Thanks. I am on the fence, and your perspective helps. I downsized from a fiver to the 25' travel tailer I have now, and I got spoiled by the stability of the fiver. I am leaning hard toward the ProPride or Hensley to get that same stability. Do you think the v nose of your camper contributes to it's tendency to sway?
@DaleStagg
@DaleStagg 2 жыл бұрын
@@tkilg7169 I do not think it is a contributing factor. They are heavy and any heavy trailer can sway especially if too much weight in the rear. They need tongue weight to help eliminate sway. I chose the ProPride because the Hensley did not adapt to using on another vehicle without buying more parts vs ProPride is adjustable. Their support is top notch if needed but cannot say the same or not with Hensley since I do not have one.

I forgot to mention below I have two garage doors and will be adding another identical Chamberlain opener now that I know it can lift the full 8’ without the extra extension kit. I wanted to buy only one first to be sure and see if it would lift correctly. My 1 ton Dodge Ram dually is right at 7’ tall with a short antenna atop the cab in the other bay and it certainly needs the full lift. Now I’m confident to buy another, and install will go much quicker this time.

What a great video you did! I just installed my Chamberlain B2405 on a 10’x8’ roll-up door identical to yours, and did not- nor could I use the 8’ ext kit . To get the extra 9” of travel out of the 20” stock bar, I simply cut 9” off the bar leaving two holes at the end and did some bench grind work to round the new end. This unit stands 123” tall and that’s all I had to work with as I have 10’ walls and garage doors are on the side, not the end as in your video. So my head unit actually touches the roof insulation. In lieu of your antenna pole, I used a 36” x1.5” perforated box tubing 14 gauge from HD and still had to use the two L brackets you showed to keep it from twisting as you mentioned. I’m only 1.5” from fully up in travel (like yours due to L bracket hitting limiter) and still pleased with that. Thank you so much for a great job on the video! It helped me greatly. Hopefully others out there can use my mod to get a full 8’ of trolley travel if they have an 8’ tall door.
