“Ocean separates lands, not souls...” ― Munia Khan “The Portuguese call it saudade: a longing for something so indefinite as to be indefinable. Love affairs, miseries of life, the way things were, people already dead, those who left and the ocean that tossed them on the shores of a different land - all things born of the soul that can only be felt.” ― Anthony De Sa, Barnacle Love “It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of ANNABEL LEE; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea; But we loved with a love that was more than love- I and my Annabel Lee; With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her highborn kinsman came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulcher In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me- Yes! - that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we- Of many far wiser than we- And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee. *For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride, In the sepulcher there by the sea, In her tomb by the sounding sea.” * Edgar Allan Poe It's this last verse that tightens this knot I still feel. “Loss alone is but the wounding of a heart; it is memory that makes it our ruin.” ― Brian Ruckley, Fall of Thanes She is my joy, and my sorrow too... Jonny Lang is the most talented artist there has ever been in my opinion. Nothing makes my soul feel as touched as when I hear his music. I thank God for Jonny Lang' s music.
@ncurry19683 жыл бұрын
All right, all right...slow your roll here. Jonny is definitely an amazing musician and singer but to say he's "the most talented artist there's ever been" seems a bit disrespectful to a lot of people. First in line would be the guy who actually wrote this song (and recorded on his own album), Bruce McCabe (the guy you see playing piano in this video). I first saw Jonny when he was still known as "Kid Jonny Lang" and he'd travel to Minneapolis with his band and play at a place called Boondocks. Bruce played their regularly with his own band, The Hoopsnakes, and that's how he got to know Jonny. Jonny's greatest hits album is literally littered with Bruce's songs (Still Rainin', Wander this World, Rack 'em Up, Lie to Me...and this one, Irish Angel). Yea, Jonny is totally amazing but to say he's the best artist ever without recognizing that his best music was written by Bruce seems a bit much. :)

The first time I heard this song was in the late nineties on ACL, I recorded it on vhs and have it in a box somewhere. Thank goodness for youtube! 😃
