Handicap sprints are a pathetic joke. Bella Nipotina wins that by 4 lengths WFA. Why would any handicap sprint be a “group 1”. Group 1’s should all be WFA, it contradicts the reason for rating it the top grade of racing if inferior horses can win a “group 1”.

most punted-on races in aussie are Handicaps
@JD-7676 күн бұрын
@@ABRDump I understand the value of handicaps but don’t have them as “group 1’s”. You don’t see handicaps being taken into account in elite golf tournaments. Why have elite races as handicaps. Makes not logical sense. No handicap should be a group 1. Group 1’s should be elite horses, may the best horse and best ride win.
@ABRDump6 күн бұрын
@@JD-767 its a result of tradition. before Australia instituted THE PATTERN I think in the 80's, these handicaps were called Principal races and were wildly popular and most Prestigious. So the deal was to give these races the Group 1 status and no more handicaps will be given the Group 1 status. Thats way Racing Purists like me call WFA Cox Plate the best race, but public sentiment is with old handicaps. No racing Jurisdiction wants to downgrade their cash cows

Horse 13 tried to block Romantic Warrior from getting out into clear running in the home straight, then the jockey of Horse 13 kept leaning his ride against Romantic Warrior. What a champion the Warrior is, and would have won more comfortably if not for the (planned? deliberate?) blocking tactic.

Romantic Warrior is a superstar. He beats the Japanese on their home turf on 1600m, a distance too sharp for him, but still won! He is now an automatic qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Turf Mile in USA. Let's see how they plan the rest of the season for the champion.

@@ABRDumpI think thats a big call and it does not reflect the rating that the race was given by the IFHA. I don't doubt the fact that RW was a couple of pounds off his best... but there were 8 horses within 3L after RW box seated. If you assume that Alligator Blood and Mr Brightside (who were out beyong 8F for the first time) went close to their season's peaks (120 / 119), which the IFHA did as they gave the race 119.75lbs, saying that these horses are not world class is just nonsense. They might struggle in some of the middle distance G1's in Europe but anywhwre else on turf they'd be right in it.

The Japanese generally set their Derby winner's for the Arc - our's are more suited to Wagga and Werribee Cup's. Today's Yasuda Kinen in Tokyo is basically a Mile world Championship title fight.
