I love the videos and really like the music you put in as well.

How did that pass Tuv? I have no idea what country you are in but that periodic road worthy test looks like a great idea after seeing this thing.

Ah the Old Chequerplate 'Fix' Many a Land rover with those on. I always advise anyone to ask for them to be removed or assume the worst is behind.

Nice work. Why they didn't replace panels first time around is criminal.

Argh! That first minute . Imagine buying a car to build a vehicle for camping and exploration but first thing you explore is how deep your pockets went for restauration🙈 Still, could be worse. Could be a LandRover

nicely done. just finished the rear offside qtr on mine, had to replace the hinge support as well. rear door needs the bottom section replaced too. did you apply any protection to the door inners? eg waxoyl? did you tack the new section into the door or run the weld all the way?
@finnsclassics2 жыл бұрын
Hi. The inside of the doors was acid etch primed, painted and then clear waxoil was used. Also I seem to remember I tacked along the panel to avoid warping but can’t quite remember. Finally going to edit the final video so I’ll see what I did then... and you will too if you watch it when I’m done 😇

Sorry boys,I have to say,it's totally unprofessional ,frаme аnd body still together ,no sаnd blаsting.It's а waste of time ,money and human effort.One yeаr ,or two yeаrs аnd this cаr will be bасk on the lift .

Every job has to be done to a budget. A body off restoration takes up a lot more time and space in the shop. A cost that would be passed onto the customer. Every part of this body is either new metal or clean un corroded original metal. Every surface inside and out is acid etch primed, painted and protected with waxoil. It will be 10 years before the vehicle will need a check over for corrosion and the cavity wax renewed. I know this from experience.

If it helps the inner and outer sills are still available at time of writing from Mercedes Benz. Just the ends would need fabricated then if needed.
@finnsclassics3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. For the cost vs. Time I just reconstructed them myself. Luckily wasn’t too hard.

Just found your channel and subscribed. Who or what Mot’ d this G Wagen, its appalling, I have a 1988 460 280GE swb and I have yet to go around the cab body as well in detail as I managed to stabilise it a couple of years ago until I managed to save and buy enough parts and hoping to get started on it very soon. Engine and drive train has been overhauled and I’m hoping to keep it standard. Great video.
@finnsclassics3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hamish, I’m glad you liked the video (editing is not my forte). It was done by a dodgy person down in England. Unfortunately they disappeared once the customer had bought the vehicle. Good luck with your repairs, these old Mercedes are great for hiding rust under the thick layer of sound deadening/stone guard. So watch out for that. Cheers.

Oh, my. So much of that initial work just made it worse... I am about to start on mine, I think the fibreglass patch is only on the rear corners and they are going anyway...
