I watch a number of solo sailing KZbin channels. The people sailing struggle a lot. Sometimes they're in a state of panic. I suppose they must feel some kind of sense of accomplishment for all the troubles and struggles that they constantly complain about.

I'm a coastal sailor so running is fine if there's room to do it.

Another awesome pod, Jerome -- I will totally check out Hannah on her socials! So cool how her affinity for the water brought sailing into her life and that she's sharing her journey!

What an excellent guest. So authentic, so humble. Great interview & super-inspiring. He's absolutely right about the void of quality nuts & bolts offshore & blue water solo material.

Nice video!! What can you say about the Baja Bash? ( Los Cabos to San Diego). In about to do it for 5th time next may. You are talking about Bahi Tortuga. I recomend Bahia Asuncion ( 50 m S of Tortuga). 100 times better.

Perhaps you can interview Reid Stowe and his support team have since accomplished one of their goals of a person sailing on the open seas without resupply for 1000 days, as well as breaking the 1067-day record set by the Fram in 1896.

That is not a vent, that is a regulator to change the high pressure of your tank to a low pressure for your appliances.

Dunno the "keep watch at all times" thing seems a real thing to me even if there isn't anything around, you just want to make sure there isn't anything. Big tankers are keen to ignore and oversee small sailboats in the ocean.

Have to sleep sometime though, and 20min naps will turn a sailor into a zombie

@@SailingIntoOblivion I know.. Tell me about it. I have been coastal sailing all the time, some passages, too. Nothing crazy like you, no crossings either, so I know too well how much it drains you. But I've only done a few days at most. I'd be too scared to be hit by a tanker wher ethe bridge officer thinks, the ocean is big and wide, we didn't see another ship in weeks and then doesn't monitor the AIS.

solo sailing is the best. When people are on board you have to look after their safety, comfort, etc.

I don't understand your original strategy, ie: course in relation to current, choice of sails, etc., but I wasn't there. Glad you made it through that.

I made a bad decision to cross the stream with bad weather coming in. After studying the stream with WoodsHole Oceanographic Institution this past July, I found out that the models that sailors are given about the Gulf Stream eddies offshore are completely useless and have little to no accuracy. Great learning moment! Lesson, don't go near the stream if bad weather is in the forecast.

That's definitely the nicest W32 around. Is that "factory built" or custom down below do you know? Didn't they allow the owners to finish their own interiors or order factory finish? They all look different down below.

question, how,do,you know you’re actually in the Gulf Stream?
@SailingIntoOblivion19 күн бұрын
Best way to feel the water temp. But the air will heat up as well. Also it creates its own weather so the clouds can be a good clue.

Re trusting the AIS at sea... I would be afraid of running into the CoughSneese fishing fleet, they like to turn their AIS off from time to time. You never know when you'll run into one of them - literally.
