I asked if I should go to an external school to learn it but she told me “just learn at home when I speak it” as a result, the only Cantonese phrases I know how to say are “it’s very windy” and “I don’t understand”

Her level of Cantonese is just slightly above mine, that it's perfect to learn off of, and the Mandarin she throws in between the Canto is at the level I'm learning so its good practice. Well with the chinese government push to eliminate non Mandrian, cantonese is now hard to learn or find teachers that aren't family. Yet the 1 state, cantonese is from, Guangdong, has 160 million speakers and 100 million overseas. As 80% of foreign Chinese are cantonese. Why cause their close to Hong Kong and it was easier to leave China from there. It's because of Hong Kong film industry that alot of foreign Chinese cantonese movies are out in the world. Jackie chan, jet li, Bruce Lee, Stephen Chow, michelle yeoh, chow yun fat, Samuel houng..all cantonese.
