It's a pity you didn't test the chorus/phase/ensemble effects.

Hey. I bought this synth for a lot of years ago. I have used it a lot to connect to my computer by midi and I can then play all sounds I have in the computer. But now I have forgot how to do to connect it. What instructions settings do I have to setup, to get it to work with midi out from the synth? I have instruction manual, but I can´t find the right intrctions for this. Can you help me please?

The big difference between synths isn't the oscillators, it's the filters. The filter sweep was totally obvious to me to be analog second. The tone you'd use to make it obvious would be a very SLOW envelope sweep with resonance, though, this was too fast to really drive the feeling home. Another check you should have done is simply two notes an octave apart. I believe the Kronos has no "analog dirt," so the pitches would be perfectly locked an octave apart. Juno-106 too. The Polysix, or any synth with analog-pitch oscillators, will have a beating sound (slow or fast depending on how well it's tuned!) if you hold two notes down an octave apart. So this would be a dead giveaway.

This is an excellent video comparing the two. However, and I understand it wasn't the intention of this particularly video, the Kronos can do so much more than the polysix. For example, in program mode, you can combine 2 polysix's, hard panning one left and the other right (then detune only one for phase or chorus efx), and you get this fabulous true stereo sound, not to mention you now have doubled the oscillators. That's just touching the surface, as in combination mode, the Kronos can combine up to 16 polysix's, with full control of each. Once you take full advantage of the Kronos, a single polysix sounds so weak by comparison. :)
@synthsite85646 жыл бұрын
You are right, the possibility's with Kronos is incredible.
@ReneKnuvers74rk6 жыл бұрын
In fact with two polysixes per program each combi can do a staggering 32 polysixes. Depending on the amount of effects it could probably still push 6 note polyphony
@nielswil4 жыл бұрын
As far as i understand it was the reason to compare them both and not to show what is all possible with the Kronos.
@nickienok96436 жыл бұрын
Sound extremely close, i couldn't tell the difference. Does the Polysix have any of the efx you get in the Kronos? thanks :)
@synthsite85646 жыл бұрын
Thanks for listening. In the test there are no effects on the sounds. But Polysix has Chorus, Phaser and Ensemble effects.
@Gabreau6 жыл бұрын
Hi, the effects of Polysix is fabulous. I do not think that the kronos can reproduce the depth of it.
@synthsite85646 жыл бұрын
Agree, it can be difficult to emulate the analog chorus and ensemble effect of Polysix. I will compare Kronos and Polysix with those effects some day.
@nickienok96436 жыл бұрын
Really? I would think the opposite. The Kronos can combine, in program mode, 2 polysix's and in combination mode, up to 16 (actually 32 if each program has 2 polysix's layered). A favorite trick of mine is in program mode, layer 2 polysix's, hard pan one left, and the other right, while detuning slightly one of them, and softening the filter and slow slightly the attack. You then get a fabulously rich chorus and slight echo efx that just sounds so much richer than using one polysix. Seriously, how can you compare 1 polysix with the Kronos that can layer or split up to 32 of them in a huge variety of configurations. Remember, the polysix really has only 1 oscillator (plus a sub), while the Kronos, by layering them anyway you want, is equal to up to 32 of them! Take your pick, 1 polysix or 32 polysix's! You really favor only one? :)
@nickienok96436 жыл бұрын
More so, the Kronos has so many other efx, not just the 3 efx on the polysix. Add some nice reverb, flange, soft echo, etc. and you're already way ahead of what a polysix by itself can do. More so, with all the AMS options on the Kronos, such as sweeping the pulse wave with an LFO, the Kronos is already far beyond the limitations of a polysix. Agree? :)
