3:30 yeri's been to hawaii a few times so she knows good advice. i live on oahu and i don't recommend it. it's nice to see the sights here and do a few touristy things, but for the most part it's crowded, hot, and less pleasant than on other islands. i personally love maui, where my father is from, but the big island is wonderful as well. as far as the comparison to jeju-do, she's kind of right. jeju-do is about the same size as maui, but instead of comparing it to any one of the islands in hawaii, i'd say it has all the things you'd find in all the islands, all put into one island. does that make sense? oahu has the city, maui/moloka'i/kaua'i/big island all have country, volcanoes, big open spaces, and lots of nature. all those can be found on jeju. jeju is a mini-hawaii.

whenever a kpop idol posts a vlog from hawaii, it's almost always on oahu, where i live. so i like to timestamp the locations in a comment like a tour guide, in case you ever come: 0:20 waikiki beach is very long (almost 2 miles) so to help locals and emergency services locate places more accurately, the beach is split into sections. this area in front of her hotel is called Kuhio beach (named after the eldest son of the last king of hawaii). that rock wall you see is called a breakwater. waikiki's surf can actually be pretty intense, so the wall is put there to reduce erosion and also to make the water more habitable for tourists who may not be as good at swimming. btw, judging by the angle of the shot, it looks like she was staying at the Alohilani Resort. It's a nice place. 1:15 each hotel has a gift shop or you can stop at any of the dozens of ABC stores in waikiki to get souvenirs. i don't really see the appeal of souvenirs but they're very popular regardless. in my opinion the best place to get souvenirs are homemade ones at the flea market at aloha stadium (open wednesday and saturday). they're less expensive and have a greater variety 1:39 honolulu cookie company is popular even among locals. they make shortbread cookies and are most known for the chocolate dipped. but my favorite is the one with the dried pineapple chunks in it. there are 3 locations in waikiki. 3:10 harding ave passing 2nd Ave outside waikiki. this is what any random neighborhood on oahu looks like 3:25 not long before this vlog was uploaded, there was a video on rv's channel where wendy and yeri took driving lessons. yeri was laughing THE WHOLE TIME🤣 3:59 - 4:27 lana'i lookout and halona, a pair of roadside scenic points close together on the southern point of the island, about 20 minutes away from waikiki. on a clear enough day, you could easily see maui, lana'i, and moloka'i. at night, there's very little light pollution due to it being on the other side of the hills from a nearby business/residential area, making it a very romantic place to be at night! 4:28 (heading to the east side of the island and working their way northward) valley of the temples memorial park is a large cemetery for people of many different denominations. it's a popular spot for tourists and instagrammers, so expect a crowd. but for the most part it's peaceful and well-kept. 5:36 poi is a paste made from boiling and mashing the root of the taro plant. it's one of the staple foods of native hawaiians before europeans arrived. the modern version has a lot of sugar in it. i prefer mine a bit on the sour side. on the sign above the ordering window you see the word "haupia." it's like a jello/flan made from coconut milk. it's deeeeeelicious 6:50 this island, whose name youtube wont' let me type, is originally named mokoli'i. it's a neat little uninhabited spot to explore 7:30 continuing north to kahuku, which is shrimp country. the most famous of the shrimp trucks is giovanni's (where they're eating), but i can honestly tell you all the shrimp trucks in that area are the same. they get their shrimp from the same places and all cook them the same ways. save yourself the hassle and go to whichever shrimp truck has the shortest line. 7:39 turtle bay, not far from the shrimp trucks. the best time to see the turtles is summer, when they come to enjoy the sun. if you don't see any turtles (they don't hang out like it's a zoo) at least stay for the beauty of the water! 7:56 i've always found it funny how tourists are fascinated by rainbows. rainbows are the result of physics, not location. and since everywhere gets rain and sun, everyone should see rainbows regularly. i don't know if hawaii has special rainbows or anything, but visitors seem so surprised and delighted by our rainbows. maybe i should appreciate them more😄 8:37 the sign on the wall says Island Club and Spa. that i knew of, there were two locations, one at the alohilani resort and one at a condo, but i think they're now both closed 9:46 the ala wai canal, running parallel to waikiki. its water mostly comes from runoff from nearby neighborhoods, so i definitely do not recommending fishing, swimming, or paddle boarding in it. although, there are several canoe and kayak racing clubs who practice in this dirty canal. i was part of my high school's JV paddling team (outrigger canoe racing). you weren't a true paddler unless you've had at least one story of tipping over in the canal. it's a long canal, and our training included running one lap around it. imagine the torture of cardio training around a canal that smells like sewage and mud. 10:23 kualoa ranch includes tours of the valley where big-name movies have been filmed. however, it's an actual ranch, so please dress accordingly. 11:41 this is called Maguros, a poke place a 5-minute walk (10 if you're walking with yeri😆) from the hotel. i've only been there once and liked it 12:14 ocean view rooms in waikiki are more expensive for a reason👍 anyway, that's this vlog. i'm a couple years behind on my watch later list, that's why i'm getting to this so late. if you read this, thanks, i hope it was helpful. i'll be doing her part 2 later, so check it out!
