Thank you so much, you've helped a lot here! Quick question, I got the last LG C4 and it runs up to 144hz via HDMI on my Windows computer but on Mac the maximum I could get is 120hz. Do you think that it's cause of the FW from cablematters or did anyone achieved to access to 144hz? Thanks in advance ;)

Also its a new problem with Macos Sequoia i have. Macbook m2pro and Samsung odyssey g6. On Sonoma i could use 2k resolution, 240hz and pick HIDPI in better display application, but now if i will use this, my resolution dropped down or i need to off HIDPI to use 2k 240hz with it. I hope its a software but, because it worked on Sonoma

I would like to connect my MacBook Air (so I don't need 120 hz) to my LG c3 tv to watch the videos I took with iPhone (4k 60 hz dolby vision) or HDR content from other cameras. The dongle/cable that you suggest in this video allows me to see that quality on tv? Thanks in advance

Should I buy the m3 macbook pro with a ram upgrade (I would upgrade from 8 to 16g) or should I buy the base model m3 pro macbook pro? I am super conflicted on which one to pick. For reference I am a college student entering my second year of undergrad. I want a laptop that can last me 4-5 years (I plan on applying to law school with this thing and starting law school with this laptop). While I am not a stem major, I will be taking multiple classes where I need to do some work on R studio. During the school year I am on my laptop almost all day, every day. I plan on using my ipad pro as a second monitor for my new laptop. I feel my current laptop is hindering my workflow a lot. I currently have a 2021 Dell XPS 13 and the battery life is crap, they keyboard is shot, the track pad glitches where it will fuck up my essays and notes, and it overheats when I have like 3 tabs open. Basically I am looking for which machine of the two macbook pros will give me the better experience for what I need.
@pmb66676 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. II was going to choose a 14" Pro, but I may lean towards 16" Pro instead. I'd be coming from an old *mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro.* What I found interesting was the *weight specs comparison* between that old 2012 laptop and the 16" PRO M3. There's _barely any difference in weight at all_ (only of 0.2lbs)! It's amazing how they managed to keep a much larger modern laptop so light when you compare to he much older ones like this. WEIGHT SPECS: *13” Mid-2012 Macbook Pro - 4.5 lbs (2.06 kg)* *16” M3 Pro - 4.7 lbs (2.14 kg);* M3 Max - 4.8 lbs (2.16 kg) 14” M3 Pro - 3.5 lbs (1.61 kg); M3 Max - 3.6lbs (1.62 kg) Since I'm already used to the weight of the old machine, I'd be fine with a 16" and I don't mind the size since I'll have more space for my hands/wrists when typing too.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but does the ProMotion option mean it can go up to 120Hz? And is the HDMI 2.0 port on the 14” MacBook M1 Pro 2021 model capable of supporting higher refresh rates like 120Hz and even 144Hz? So why would I still need to use the method you just did? Sorry, I’m not very tech-savvy. I'm looking to buy a new monitor and am very confused about which model to choose. I'm debating between the 32” OLED 4K 240Hz ASUS ROG Swift and the 32” OLED 240Hz Alienware. Any recommendations on which would fit best with the MacBook M1 Pro would be great. Thanks!
@alec.js_6 ай бұрын
@@costantineyoussif6679 not a bad question at all. Pro motion means the MacBook’s own display has 120hz (which is linked directly to the motherboard). That same motherboard has hdmi 2.0. Which in itself. Cannot sent 4k AND 120hz at the same time. You could do 1440 120hz. Or 4k 60hz. The MacBook is more than powerful enough to drive a 4k 120hz display. Apple handicapped it by using an older HDMI standard. However, my use case is limited. In your situation, you’d want to go usb c to your display (since your display is an actual monitor, avoid hdmi completely). My video is irrelevant for you. I’ve always liked stuff from ASUS. I have minimal knowledge of those two models however.
@costantineyoussif66796 ай бұрын
@@alec.js_ after intensive research it appears that i can use one single cable which is USB C to Displayport 1.4 and that could pump the refresh rate up to 4k and 144Hz. Thanks again for your information and details.

I went with a base spec 18/512 14" Space Black M3 Pro MacBook Pro. I don't do any CPU/GPU intensive tasks and could've gone with an M2 or M3 MacBook Air, but I wanted the better display, better speakers, more ports, and Space Black color. Coming from an M1 MacBook Air, this feels like a nice upgrade for those features. I don't notice much of any difference in performance for day to day work flow.

Dude. Excellent video. I’m finally upgrading my old 2017 MacBook Pro because it was constantly running out of ram when running virtual machines and multiple tabs on my browser. Yea I just do general compute stuff for the most part but I want the option for virtual machines and GIS type work simultaneously while I surf the web and listen to music. I went with the 16” pro MacBook Pro with the 18gig ram. I REALLY wanted the 36 but I also REALLY don’t need it, especially for the price haha. I appreciate your honest video, especially the user experience aspect. I made the switch from PC to MacBook in 2015 and haven’t looked back, simply because of that user experience aspect. You really can’t beat it, even though you could probably get a more powerful machine for a decent amount less. In short, thanks for the video man, makes me feel good about my decision haha. I’m sure the upgrade from a 2017 MacBook Pro, not even an M1 chip, to an M3 pro is going to be fantastic and I’m excited!

Hey @Alec, I'm new to Macs (still actually don't use or have one) and am needing to get one for my kid whose headed off to university in the fall to study CS (computer science). I am curious if you think an M3 Mac Book Air (upgraded with 16 GB Unified RAM and increased SSD) is sufficient? If not, would the M3 Mac Book Pro (with similar upgrades) be something you'd suggest? And/or if what you'd suggest is an M3 Pro Mac Book Pro (with similar specs). Since I'm not techy enough and am not familiar with the Mac realm, any opinion is appreciated.
