No artist has ever changed music forever, artists can sometimes steer music in a direction. Sometimes it's a seismic leap in a completely different direction, but more often than not, it's gentle nudges over time. Influences, copying, borrowing, being inspired by, collaborating - over decades and decades, perhaps even hundreds of years really. Albarn is very gifted and has shown an ability to collaborate which is just damn amazing - he can draw in musician's from all styles and work effectively with them, fusing different genres together and perhaps that comes out with new ones - I guess that's up to the music press to name. I have to say, I'm an old punk rocker so their initial sound, post punk, appealed to me but People change and try new things, bands evolve or die, it's a thin line with some bands, some get better, some get worse, they have definitely progressed and I like it. The 'Evidently Chickentown' ending in the episode 'Stage 5' is one of my favourite scenes in the whole show. The looks on both Chris and Tony's faces at the christening, paired with Phil saying "no more of this" and knowing that Johnny Sack is totally out of the picture with the New York crew really makes you feel uneasy. It's like you know everything is about to change for Tony and his crew and not for the better. The unusual music going with the scene gives the whole sequence a very sinister and unnerving vibe to it. It's perfect.
