Nobody does ambience like Cortini. He just brings that weight to it and that sinewy estatic vibe.

My favorite remix of this song. It carries a lot of emotional weight for me and got me through a rocky end to a marriage.

Loved it ages ago when I first came across it. Love it now. A little bummed this is mono and not stereo though.

I remember looking at all the remixes that NIN fans made years ago and it was an amazing time. It was such a free flowing a beautiful time to see all the interpretations and artistry come alive. And each one was better than the next. But I remember this specific song hitting me and making its way into my mind and heart with roots that will never leave. By far one of my most favorite and cherished songs that I will love for eternity.

The chord sequence, pacing, and muffled effect of this track feel to me like Boards of Canada, particularly BOC from The Campfire Headphase and after.

When 'Downward Spiral' came out in 93 or 94... i can't rememeber, but i was around 13/14.... My friend at the time, my best friend, once said to me "When i listen to NIN i feel alone...:..... I understood him completely, and i still do. When i listen to Reznor i feel alone in the world. This song just hammers it home...

I'm pretty goddamn sure nobody can truly explain the meaning of this song.. We all interpret it differentially. Sit back and listen to the lyrical genius. Fasten up, it's gonna be a philisophical ride.......

have you ever met yourself? i recently had my first experience with DMT (Ayahausca tea)...this song describes my introspection and emotional state during my trip to a T! truly an incredible song...truly an incredible experience...truly trent reznor. everything's going to be OK...just let go. DMT!

@cartoonlips7 and still... you know what? What if everything around you, isn't quite as it seems, what if all the world you used to know, is an elaborate dream, and if you look at your reflection, isn't all you wanted to be... What if you could look right through the cracks, would you find yourself afraid to see... It works in every pane...

I remember the first time I noticed the applause in the background of the album version of this tune... gave me chills. lyrically I think it really captures the beginning of it all quite well; "Trent Reznor is Nine Inch Nails"

the reason for this songs absolute greatness is because of the pure truth from it really makes you think about your life and this world make you question your existence just makes you open your mind instead of thinking about common situations you start to think about more diverse ones i hope that the true meaning of this song is known as it really hits you hard when you know basically this song is about illusion about how you visualize your life the song is telling you that you can be more :)

this song reminds me of rough long nights that run into morning... nights where I can't sleep; nights of worry, dread, helplessness... very few songs bring me back to that. It's very powerful
