Wish he had at least used his backup band on Catch the Wind, even if it was just minimally. He sand it solo so many times and it would've been great to hear a bit of instrumentation. I guess we have the record for that. Oh well.

That's true. I paid €2500 for the Gretsch Tennessee a few years ago. Music is an expensive hobby.

His "Sunshine Superman" and "Mellow Yellow" albums were the very first Fusion albums ever. They combined elements of Folk, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical and Indian Music. Just incredibly creative and original songs. I'm now 71 but i was lucky enough to catch him at 18 in Boston in 1971 when he was backed by violin and flue (Harold McNeer) and I always wish he had toured with a much larger backup group because his recorded songs had HUGE instrumental backing. Unfortunately most of his performances were just him and his acoustic guitar. At least the live album has some instrumental back-up on a few songs. He is unfortunately mostly forgotten now because his post - Bajabijacal albums didn't live up to his earlier albums, but then few musicians can stay at such a high point for years on end. Just happy he released so many great albums in his very young prime.

His songs really had a "folk song" ring to them. he helped to evolve music, so that it phased folk music into the plane of Rock, and brought about such an expansion into modern music.

This song was blocked on my KZbin when I posted it. And I posted it as it was part of a Hippie Show (the story behind Led Zeppelin) which was aired in 1990. The melody was aired from an EP (single). It wasnt even CD quality back then....and I tried to preserve it now in 2024 ....but no, I had to remove it from the show and will post the show WITHOUT DONOVAN in it. It's ok. If nobody cares about Donovan at his 78 years of age.....nobody cares anymore on KZbin either. It is what it is. Some people don't get that promoting a rare video is not about making money or gaining valuables but preserving history. This time the history failed Donovan in 1990. "After reviewing your appeal, The state51 Conspiracy has confirmed that your video contains copyrighted material that hasn't been approved for use in your video. Video title: Pittis Show - 2 may 1990 - Led Zeppelin (ep. 1 - pt. 2) Copyrighted content: Mellow Yellow (Single Version) Claimed by: The state51 Conspiracy The state51 Conspiracy wants to give you an opportunity to cancel your appeal within the next 7 days. Donavon and syd Barrett went theater (big play production, I forget name. ‘saucers full of secrets Pink Floyd biography’. Both showed up like christmas's trees. Donovan’s eyes were painted ‘cleopatra eyes’ with Syd. “Whoever told the story in the book said for them to see that ‘Play’ on acid must’ve been absolutely mind exploding astronomical.

The 80’s were a dark phase for music..😢.. thank God for Donovan on tour.. went to see him live in Dublin in Whelans Wexford Street around1994-1996 in college and he sounded EXACTLY like the scratchy records from the 60’s.. I WAS BLOWN AWAY.. Can’t remember was it in first year or second year but I went with my friend from South Africa Pearse Mc Donagh
