The metro iconography was ment for a time when many could not read, like the 1970s when the literacy rates even in the cities was quite low. Nowadays that's not really an issue anymore, but the designs are an important part of the city's cultural identity. Great video.

They really should go deeper into the Bronx in the bike tour. It is a beautiful borough.

@@gurvinka I just finished putting my bike together. I had trouble getting one pedal on. I was freaking out lol, but I got it after about 10 minutes. What wave are you riding in? I’m in 3

The Beltline portion of this video is nice, but it's really odd that in the little picture slideshow at the beginning you chose to highlight both a confederate monument and Stone Mountain. I'm hoping this was just an accident.

There appears to be a recent fenced in area that looks like a dog park, but it is always padlocks. Does anyone know anything about this?

I have a salon off on the Beltline at N. Highland Ave. Been there for 2 years now. I love the beltline. I ride my Escooter there almost everyday when I have down time at work. I can get to any places off on the beltline in just few minutes! Fun vibes, rich cultures, active lifestyle, fun activities, events and festivals every weekend. One negative thing is liberalism and feminism. These folks are a pain to deal with. Their values and beliefs are counter productive. Just saying. lol

Fantastic explanation of my hometown's urbanism! Sounds like you didn't really use cars while you were there so I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't hear, but there is a program specifically meant to address air pollution and traffic congestion called "Hoy No Circula", in which cars aren't allowed to drive in the city on certain days depending on the last number of their plate and age of the car. Cars are emissions tested and newer, less polluting models get exemptions, meaning a significant portion of cars in the city are barred from circulating on any given day. Has helped quite a bit with air quality, I remember there were days where the sky was so gray or even brown but now I see blue a lot more often :)

This is a pretty great video explaining how people get around in Mexico City. They have a big car problem like many US cities but unlike many US cities, they have other options for transportation 👍 Their bike lanes aren’t as protected as Dutch ones (and they don’t have any traffic signals) but they’re definitely much more developed than most of the ones in America and they’ve also got bike culture down with the vendors on bikes. Great video! Hope you get more views.

Great video! I am another regular birdwatching visitor, about once a week. One great thing about RedGate is its ability to absorb a number of people. The parking lot can be almost full on a nice weekend, but the park is big enough you can take a good hike and only encounter a few other folks. And you will see or at least hear the two resident Common Ravens about half the time if you keep your ears on!

OMG! I love this park...and this detailed history and possible future for this reclamation of nature. I hate golf and had never visited Redgate until Wayne invited me. And it is bikeable...but not for every biker. One can reach it by hiking a mile through the John Hayes Forest Preserve from the Nature Center or Calvin park in Twinbrook on trails that eventually cross Norbeck at a well-marked and stop-light-signaled crosswalk directly into the park. I'm hopeful the city will consider Redgate as a host site for a Rockville Conservation Corps offering city youth paid incentives for restoring and maintaining the park's native wildlife populations (plant and animal). Work that could lead them to careers in protecting everyone's future.

Negative effects of dogs on wildlife? There is more of a correlation of increased foot traffic and construction and noise to diminished wildlife than a few dogs running around.
@michelecornwell1082 Жыл бұрын
I birdwatch at Redgate at least weekly. Very helpful to finally understand the approved Plan for the park. Hopeful that the City fully funds it in the coming years. Kudos to Wayne for his advocacy and now it is up to all of us to ensure this vision becomes reality in the City of Rockville’s capital budget. Thank you for your research.

The Beltline is eventually going to have light rail circling the city...one day. I wonder how they will do that and still keep it pedestrian friendly. Also, The Beltline is contractually obligated to build or secure a certain amount of affordable housing along its ROW. I'm not sure of the exact number but it is higher than the ratio the city requires in general. The Beltline has it's own TAD (Tax Allocation District) which allows it to gain tax revenue to put back into the project (way simplified description). I've lived here almost 30 years and it is amazing what Atlanta has done in that amount of time.

FYI - the area you refer to as “Virginia Highlands” is “Virginia Highland” named after the intersection of Virginia Ave and North Highland Ave. Not even the natives get it right. Nice video!
