If your not gas safe registered please don't put up video off installation regardless off who signed it off. YOUR NOT GAS SAFE REGISTERED! do you know the regulations, clearance etc..stuff like this promote other people who don't have a gas safe engineer in there pocket..spent all these years in the trade for people like you to say to me I got someone to sign it off and he did the pipe work and then put up a video off installation. So if you put this video up and someone followed it and god forbid it goes wrong, who's the guy who promoted it.... doesn't say anything in the video about gas safe or anything..think twice remove the video thats my advice

Thanks for sharing this video. About to start a very similar job, could I just ask, did you tile directly onto the ply using a flexible adhesive and didnt use any primer beforehand. Im based in Ireland so marine ply is the norm here too. A lot of what Ive read mentions all sorts of over kill steps so was very happy to see your video as it was exactly the way I was planning on doing my job. Thanks again for the video man

You can buy a specific blade for this task which only has 4 teeth. Cuts right down on how much dust is kicked up. I'd still recommend cutting them outside if you're able though, as it's pretty nasty stuff...

Harwood as in oak or beech, Ash? If its a tongue and groove type timber you would need to over lay it with plywood and pin it together with screws or nails 300mm apart if that makes sense

Just curious would this work on a regular plywood? I see some comments about marine grade but I find it hard to believe moisture seeping through a set mastic would cause plywood rot. I feel just like everything else in the world people create and push useless products to make a few dimes.

@DEESyt Жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking the question and watching the video, what is VJ board is that like a compressed MDF or Chipboard?
@bizrhapsody
@bizrhapsody Жыл бұрын
@@DEESyt It is pine wood I think(currently covered with paint and I haven’t stripped the paint off to find out what exactly is underneath), as this workers cottage is approximately 50yrs old and I’m sure there won’t be moisture resistant MDF available back then.
@DEESyt
@DEESyt Жыл бұрын
I had a look at the VJ stuff it's a tongue and groove so would expand and contract through the seasons.. best to take it off or put a 6mm or 1/4 " plywood screwed and glued on top of it before tiling as there is a possibility that the grout lines or tile will crack with movement of the wood underneath thru the year and it would just be a complete nightmare swapping that out
@bizrhapsody
@bizrhapsody Жыл бұрын
@@DEESyt the current situation is those VJ boards(made of solid pine timber) are the wall panels and it becomes impossible to rip them up unless I decide to do a major reno. Currently there is a small section of old wall tiles put on the pine wood as splash back and it’s close to window which it makes me curious and confuse if I should do the same thing as previous owner did or should I screw in a plaster board or plywood for the larger section of this wall to be tiled.

Perhaps I missed it, I mean the instructional portion of this video. Came here to get details on tiling a powder room over plywood, and watched a guy lay tile to annoying music. It would have been helpful to discuss the floor prep, the type of thinset for the type of substrate and tile composition. The thickness of the tile, and what size notch trowel was used. Other than that, good video🤷
@DEESyt
@DEESyt 2 жыл бұрын
hey Billy thanks for leaving a comment this video was one of my first I made and have changed a lot over the few years I am on youtube, lets just say that I had not found my voice at the time. I am in the UK so sizes of trowel are in mm and we use tile adhesive not Thinset as in the USA however I remember using a gold thinset there a few years back which was expensive but very good indeed. hope it goes well for you mate and thanks again for taking the time. hope you subscribed for other talented videos with less music 🙂
