Every time I watch this, it reminds me that Doug Trumbull displays a level of integrity which is rarely seen in an industry full of self-aggrandizing egomaniacs. A remarkable man.

Most of the people in the U.S. film industry are charlatans. People, like Mr. Trumbull, are very rare. He's all the more special for it!

I have conflicting feelings about these kinds of 'behind the scenes' docs. On the one hand, as a filmmaker and artist, I love to hear the stories and learn about how they did all this stuff, the innovative ways they were able to accomplish the magic on screen. On the other hand, watching such docs can truly spoil the magic of the movie going experience. Especially when you learn (and see) the very humble roots of some of the more magnificent things up on screen that have impressed you through the years. To this day, I still regret watching a 'behind the scenes' documentary on Casablanca, because I cannot watch it without recalling what I learned about a 'cheat' they used to accomplish that final scene.

Yeah because cgi doesn't involve artists, or hard work or talented people. You have no idea how hard these people work, people can't seem to move on

Very interesting. I've always loved the blimp sequences. It rained during my first night on holiday in Tokyo (Shinjuku) and it WAS the LA of Bladerunner. I was looking up just in case.

They still do. Take Ian Hubert as an example. He shoots everything and does all effects in a very improv way, going "Ok this might work" repeatedly.
