I'm pretty sure most of you know that all you got to do is look up a dude named Richard Holdener with the video called "The Other Guys" 400 M build. He built a pretty serious engine over 500 hp out of a 400M.

We just installed our rebuilt 351m/400 in my wife's 1979 F-250 Ranger XLT CS. Phil Cook@C&C Performance in Duncan, OK did the rebuild. Bored 0.20, crankshaft turned 0.20, Edelbrock Performer Ford 400 intake manifold with a Holly, built 650 Brawler, Compcam FC260H-10, and all new internals. Just fired it up for the first time in 21 years and she sparked on the first turn of the key. Super excited and now on to the muffler shop for some nice sounding duals.

I have a low mileage 400m big block in my bronco, I was gonna convert it into a 300cui v6 so I can get a balance between torque and fuel economy (and modify the 4 speed to have an integrated 2 speed gear splitter so I have 8 gears with overdrive) but if I can get good gas mileage out of a 6.5l v8 (8mpg as it is already, hard pass) then that's cool. Then again I can just de stroke it to a 3.5" stroke and get 351cui. who knows? I'll find out soon enough.

Ford V8s are like the girls V8....All the men race GM and Dodge. Don't get me wrong I know they can be fast too but Ford was always just a little less power and a little slower

A few years back I built one for mud drags. Used Cleveland 4v super CJ heads with pocket porting, Harlan Sharpp rockers. Had to use spacer plates for the 4v Torker intake. Custom ground Huggins cam, .630 lift. 11.4:1 compression. 680hp with 150 shot

Have they ever came up with after market rods and pistons yet ? I know there are heads available for these along with intakes . But from what I understand there was not alot of piston and rods available without going with 340 pistons and sbc rods that needed to be cut down .

Ford M engines can make awesome power. They are cheap and plentiful in junkyards. Low compression and lousy cams were the problem with these engines during the smog era. (Easily fixed).
