Thanks Mike. That was a lovely review of different whistles. Thank you for putting that out there. Too bad the whistle off M&B's 1044 could not reach it's full potential. The smaller Shay boiler may not have had a large enough whistle outlet in the dome cover combined with lower MAWP (pressure) than 1044 to give it a fair test. Perhap you could suggest to Alberni Pacific to give it a try on their #7 (ex M&B 1055)

I've ridden (mountain bike) the entire Kettle Valley Railway grade (no rails), very interesting to see rails still in place on the E&N to present day. The trestle sections shown in your video remind me of the KVR trestles west of Castlegar, there are several tunnels as well.
@LowLightMike12 күн бұрын
I haven't visited the "Columbia & Western" rail-trail west of Castlegar, yet. But I've enjoyed reading about its railway history and also seeing modern-day videos of the really long tunnel and also that other tunnel that only is accessible when the lake is low. So much interesting history there in the west Kootenay area.
@CascadiaBC12 күн бұрын
@@LowLightMike Yes, technically the C&W went from Castlegar to MIdway to join the KVR. In late July 2003, the trestles above Arrow lake had no railings or wide planks perpendicular to the ties. All the tunnels and trestles of the first section of the C&W from Castlegar, are high above the lake along a steep slope to Summit station (Farron).

John 3:16 (NIV) “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV) “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Romans 6:23 (NIV) “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” John 3:3 (NIV) “Jesus replied, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.’” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.” John 1:9 (NIV) “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” John 3:36 (NIV) “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.” REVELATION 13:16 And he (AntiChrist) cause all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that have understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb(Jesus Christ): 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascend up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receive the mark of his name. 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Mathew 24 What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso read, let him understand): Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

Hi Mike, Good reporting, again. Nanoose is in the newspaper this morning for all the wrong reasons. Bill Times Colonist Sunday October 6 2024 Sec.A9 "In 1912, the Crown granted the right-of-way to the E&N Railway Company, owned and operated by Canadian Pacific Railway, to build and operate a railway on Vancouver Island, but passenger service on the E&N shut down in 2011 because of the poor condition of the rails. In March of last year, senior governments announced that the right-of-way would be returned to the Snaw-naw-as nation. But Chief Brent Edwards said the former rail corridor was returned in a “contaminated and dilapidated state.” Edwards, whose nation began to remove old ties and the railway tracks this week, said the lands “must be remediated to a state that is acceptable to the Snaw-naw-as.”

Absolutely wonderful to have such a dedicated team to get this project across the finish line. Well done everyone. There’s nothing that beats the raw power of steam. Im so happy for your community, to hold it together to see this project to the end.You guys did a top notch job. Sadly over in Port Alberni they’re slowly letting their steam projects down size, they just recently tore up the tracks across from the pulp mill all the way over to Roger street.They replaced the tracks with asphalt and street lights and for what purpose I’m not sure, a walk way maybe? There’s already a sidewalk on Stamp ave so it’s a mystery to me as to why that walkway was duplicated about one hundred feet or less away from where the tracks were located. It seems short sighted somehow. keeping the steam history alive and well is not in the interest of the community anymore and that has me wondering why. what will come of Maclean’s sawmill. The community had a perfect set up going, you could take the train to McLeans mill and back to the train Station at the bottom of Argyle. They had everything in place and they let it go.They even let the train Station go.They had a Shay locomotive at the bottom of Redford street for years.I think it was a Shay #7 but I could be wrong on the number but I was told it was a Shay. It’s too bad that community let all their assets go like that, it’s like “cancelling history “ and should never be permitted. Now they don’t really have anything to attract tourists anymore, the water bombers will be gone soon, one just left this summer. They let all their opportunities go, meanwhile they could have had a wonderful setup similar to Lake Cowichan. I saw your project on Global tv today and they gave you a wonderful presentation. Be very proud of yourselves and your community, a job completed and well done. 👍

This is a beautiful steam engine. Is it narrow gauge? And was it used to bring lumber to a sawmill? Thank you for uploading this video
@LowLightMikeАй бұрын
Yes, it is narrow gauge. It was converted twice in its lifetime. It was factory built as narrow gauge, but the original buyer (Hillcrest Lumber) wanted a narrow gauge locomotive, so Lima converted it at their factory before sending it to the customer. Then in the 1960s, it was converted back to narrow-gauge in preparation for its donation to this forest museum. It was first used to pull log cars from the forest to a mills, and then later to switch lumber cars at a deep-sea wharf.

Just the lights the bells and arms were not activated it was just the lights that were blinking so cool my theory as of why the crossings lights were activated is that the island railway corridor was testing the crossing super exciting! we need the E&N any who Oh you should check out the old logging railroad up to the top of the island I’ll edit this comment with the name when I remember anyway Peace ✌️

Is the Crosby going to be the Shay's new whistle?
@LowLightMikeАй бұрын
I'm not sure if anything is permanent with this Shay's whistles, as this is now the 3rd whistle it has worn in 2024. And there might still be a 4th one that they try, next time that the Shay runs, maybe. As for the whistle in this video, they found it in the collection of whistles that they have on hand, and then cleaned it up and decided to give it a try. I asked the Engineer to climb up and see if there were any manufacturer markings on it, and there were none visible. So the "Crosby" name is their best guess of what it might be.
