This is the era I remember, went on Towers of terror 7 times and The beast when it was indoors. I also remember a large climbing tower that was cool and unique. When the park was sold by Granada it really started going down hill

Yes black knight / doom were the same ride. Its good to date everything like this as it takes me back. I remember going the year excalubur with my secondary school on its opening year and i found the sight of it terrifying but still rode it! I also found the rack very boring too!
@coaster_dad8 сағат бұрын
Yeah I did think the rack probably was more visual than thrilling.

Loved this video Chris. I’ve got fond memories of Camelot in the early 90s. I do remember going on the rack and thinking it was great at the time. However, I think it was around when Nemesis was launched that we started to prefer towers more. I would have been 14 then. Always look forward to watching your videos 👍🏼

Yeah, I'm almost certain Black Knight's Revenge was just a ghost train. I have a fairly vivid memory of getting to the front of the queue, and a cast member dressed as a knight jumped round a corner and slammed his hand on the wall right next to me, and I almost shat myself. I've just remembered - the last time I was there (some time in the early 2000's) a wheel flew off the Dragon Flier as it passed over the lower level of the park and smashed into the ground a few feet away from a woman pushing a pram. A member of staff just picked it up and walked away with it, and nothing more was done. There was no fuss or anything. It was quite surreal.
@coaster_dadКүн бұрын
ha ha, if he did that for every train he'd have a hell of a sort hand 😉

The dragon flyer.... The diesel powered coaster..... Which was the only. One in the UK and one of only 2 in the world.. There was only train to this coaster and the other train which is in Algeria actually originated in Belgium. The engine tgat powered this tide was a ford 2ltr diesel engine with turbo charger and four speed gearbox to the drive wheels..... Had the epic chance to drive / operate this at the age of 15...... Normally not going any further than second or third gear low revs.... In fourth gear was a positive g machine!

Really enjoying these retrospectives of theme parks :) The northern ones especially are bringing back so many memories for me. I grew up going to BPB, Camelot, Pleasureland Southport, and Frontierland. Thank you, and keep up the good work :) PS any plans to do one on Frontierland?

Venom special effects and themeing..... Exactly the same as the beast.... A mirror all in the centre of the helix with the added magic of two red lasers... Apparently to simulate the eyes of the guardian! Difference with venom was in the entry tunnels leading to the queue line there were a number of reptiles and arachnids in viewing tanks.

According to the research I've done regarding the rack... It was the only 'canyon trip' flat ever made... Originally being at the American adventure and made for that park (hence the model name canyon trip) You're right regarding the ghost train - dungeons of doom and the black nights revemge .. Both being the same
@coaster_dadКүн бұрын
Yeah I assumed they had to be the same. Crazy how many times the park renamed things 🤷♂️

Person missing on 2nd carriage in wheel. Black nail missing on wizard. Line missing on wizard hat. Nail missing in monster (far right). Missing dots on cheek of monster. Missing right ear on monster. I've got my nostalgia goggles on, but Camelot was my favourite place in the world when I was a kid. Running straight to see Puff The Magic Dragon was a must. Beast was my favourite roller coaster and I still liked it when it became Venom, but I preferred it as Beast with the big claw on the mountain outside. The Rack was another favourite of mine. The last time I went there was 2003ish and there were people trying to sell caravans next to the farm. That's when I knew its days were numbered.

Hi Chris. Really enjoyed the video! I remember going on the rack when I was younger and it was absolutely fantastic and was quite thrilling really. Very popular ride back in the day but when it stopped working the park just left it to rot unfortunately. The junior dragon coaster was initially based up where the pendragons plunge was later located. They moved it to the back to make way for pendragons. When the park first opened its gates I believe the entrance was actually over near the indoor play centre castle as mentioned in your first video. I have photos of it somewhere if you want to see. When the park was being demolished they uncovered a crown mosaic located where the main entrance moved in later years. Yes sooty was really there and as big as it looks in the photos 😂! Rollerquest didn't really fit in with the themeing but it was absolutely fantastic! We had so much fun as a family competing! There was a go karting track located where the mini golf was located in later life and the go karts were moved to the main entrance. The children's jousting ride was also firstly based up close to the entrance to the dragon flyer ride then moved after a couple of years and that area became a picnic area. Hope any of these facts help. Just a message away if you need any help to confirm or assist with anything. I practically lived in the park at one point.

Hi again. Your 90's timeline is a little off with things, for example, the jousting horses kids ride was there well before 1999 and thendouble.decker carousel actually replaced the quintain, but not in the 90's, that was a little later. The roller quest was part of the 'family entertainments centre' (FEC) that was Prime Resorts big idea in 1999. It was situated inside the castle at the entrance, but the main idea wasnt really about daytime traffic, it was in fact a strategy to have evening entertainment that people would come to after park hours. The real problem being, there was no easy way to get there from the nearby towns, so it was a bit of a let down.

The Rack in its later years the restraints wernt exactly tight. As you could slide yourself out from them if slumped in the seats. Venom I think the "effects" where just afew flashing lights an abit of badly done UV. Could be wrong as it is like 26 years ago or so at that point. I think the giant Sooty was up over the entry for a time then got taken down after it was damaged in high winds.
