Your OU32 model reproduction project is great. Good luck. I reproduced it as a radio-controlled model. I got advice from Kotaro Horiuchi on control technology. He said that it would be difficult to reproduce a radio-controlled model. But I made it happen. I'm still improving it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXeziKuHpZ6GrJY

I recreated it with a radio-controlled model. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXeziKuHpZ6GrJY It took several years to develop a radio-controlled model that, like the OU32, is propelled by a jet pump and floats on hydrofoils. Its development required a hydrofoil mechanism and aerodynamic elements in the control system.

Very interesting. I think to build anither OU32 replica here, in Russia. But i will to use fully automatical height stabilisation. based on MCU, solid state gyro and industrial servos...

Still working on it. With your prompting I will do an up here here in a week or two. So far, hull and canopy are completed. Upholstered seats fitted. Instrument panel in. Engine installed. Control systems worked out but not yet installed. As they say; 90% done - just 90% to go!

Brilliant work. I recently had the same idea and just found your example when researching. Gets the feel and the sound of a petrol board track but meets the laws. Would probably have better range than a battery only version.
@cricriandprojects3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mitchell. I have been riding it for more than a year now. I still need to charge the battery every few weeks but I think it runs for longer than it otherwise would. The slow thud of the motor is an eye-catcher, which I quite enjoy.
@cricriandprojects3 жыл бұрын
Possibly, but for me it was an engineering exercise. Part of the challenge was to have it look and sound like a vintage M/C but be road legal for me to take down to the store. Here in NZ if you power it with a petrol motor it must be registered as a moped and carry a number plate. I have been pulled up twice and just ride off in electric only - to prove my point. I haven’t been charged yet!
@alexanderbondestam3 жыл бұрын
youd be better off making it electric
@cricriandprojects3 жыл бұрын
Not quite. The Briggs and Straton turns a motorcycle alternator. The output is rectified and stepped up to 54 volts to charge the battery. This increase the range of the bike by some significant margin.
@shadowgattler3 жыл бұрын
so from what I understand, the briggs engine is there simply for the sound, correct?
@Fminus1043 жыл бұрын
Why the belt from engine to the jackshaft and not just to the alternator if that Briggs doesn´t drive the wheel directly? I see that lever to disengage the the belt by losening the tension but that´s not convincing for a cop that has his brains on. Or am I missing something? (I built a bike with friction drive that can be disengaged by a lever, - cops didn´t like it :))) Nice patina though. Cheers
@cricriandprojects3 жыл бұрын
Well spotted. The main advantage of the friction belt connection is that it allows me to start the B&S using the electric motor, when the bike is on its axel stand. Then to disconnect to stop the wheel rotating. However I also use the friction drive to add partial B&S power for uphill. This reduced the amperage draw on the battery to less than 10 amps.

@@cricriandprojects Well that makes sense, - pull starter would be way too uncool. Have fun and stay safe with your bike helmet!

Did you manage to get the bike road legal?
@waynebutt49663 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam. Good question. I have been stopped twice and on both occasions the officers accepted my claim that it was road legal - when I should them I could ride off without starting the Briggs and Straton. Of course once around the corner I just start the motor again. I do get lots and lots of street interest.

Nice job Wayne! I've built seven gas bikes and a trike all in early 1900's theam. I have kicked the idea of a hybrid many times but I always considered electric front hub drive with rear gas driven. I really appreciate the ingenuity of the alternator and mid drive. Would really like to see full view and maybe a ride video. Keep up the great work and watch out, as soon as you start riding it you'll want to build another 😉

@Fruehauf-vh4nn5 жыл бұрын
Nice build, but isn't it ridiculous that you cannot use the gasoline engine directly?
@cricriandprojects4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it adds to the complexity of the challenge. However when I tension the belt connecting motor to transmission there is some contribution to drive power (albeit illegal) and the amperage use drops. If I keep the current draw below 5 amps the battery remains fully charged. The electric motor is far more powerful than the petrol engine anyway.

Wayne Butt Hi Wayne. Great news. I have owned a Pumpabike in the past. Your aquabike should fly. From your launch video and my experience I would recommend that you launch it by yourself by giving a strong push from the pool side. This will get you up to the required initial flying speed and leave you a few flying seconds for starting pedaling. Philippe
