You guys are amazing. Thank you for doing all of this. You have gifted the most amazing tools that allow me and my family to experience God in the most beautiful, dynamic way. This is the first time in my 47 year life that I can honestly say I know who i am and who God truly is. Much love brothers!

@22:08 Thank you for responding to my question! That does make sense (matching the Kingdoms/Empires with their materials). It strikes me as intriguing that all the Kingdoms mentioned were all part of one body, and all would be destroyed by a single rock not cut by human hands. It's even more intriguing that that rock did not become another body, but became a mountain that filled the Earth. Mountains are described as immovable (indestructible in this context) objects in Scripture.

Thank you. To clarify i don't think the prayer of Jabez is fictional or the character but the sense of rubbing a lamp to get wishes granted I totally understand. "TRANSACTIONAL" That hit it with me. Again thank you!! The ways of God are mysterious and again all I'm trying to do is trust his story. I enjoy this program very much and it has changed my perspective and life coming from an Evangelical Lutheran upbringing. And yes my name is often pronounced with a J sound but it is a hard G.

I’m the Katrina that asked the question at 1:24:00.. I did not mean too have an attitude. 😂 but that did make me laugh and it definitely sounded that way when you read it vs when I was typing it. 🤣 thank you for the answer. I still don’t agree and I feel like this needs buttoning up… lol The sign of Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the whale? Also the timing of the passover lambs being chosen and kept for x amount of days and then killed on Passover all line up with when Yeshua came into Jerusalem as the spotless lamb and then was killed on Passover.. I have him going into the tomb on a Wednesday night and being in there that night, all of Thursday day and night, all of Friday day and night, and Saturday day.. then risen sometime between Saturday and Sunday when they found the tombs empty. Also, yes I did meet you in Ft.Worth a few months ago!!

In ministry around the world, the bible can have a profound impact immediately on first-time readers. It immediately touches hearts and transforms.

"I am not a scholar" au contraire, mon Frere. Cemetery degrees do not a scholar make. (Cemetery...seminary...is where faith goes to die in many cases, but that's ok bc Jesus can raise that up to resurrection life, right? mmm...probably projecting again....) What degrees did any of our bible heroes have? You have the same "scholarly" creds Jesus did....read a lot, study a lot... it's the heart attitude; *that* you definitely embody. in my VERY humble opinion [You all don't know me but let me tell you now very humble that is, ;-) ] I appreciate your humility and recognizing you don't have a credential that neatly categorizes the path of your study. So What? Like there's a huge school...waves and waves of folk following in this admittedly niche (Jesus following, Rabbinic flavored) hermeneutic? Maybe that's where Bema goes long term: The Marty Solomon Seminary and Pub, with the Brent Billings Pint O'Bacon.... ;-) (really wish yt did emojis...) seriously....love what all y'all do (h/t Elle, Josh, et al)

Childhood trauma caused me to experience all guilt, conviction, everything 100% of the time as severe and debilitating shame. I literally hated myself and was cruel to myself. I'm still in the process of saying no to shame. But I've found that even conviction does me no good whatsoever unless God shows me HOW to change, or what to do instead. if I am convicted to have more patience, it does me no good if I don't understand how to accomplish that practically. sadly, this is where psychology has helped me far more than church. in the example of patience, I learn to do things like take deep breaths before I respond. that gives me the ABILITY to respond differently than I used to. To have guilt or conviction without the ability to change frustrates a person and reminds me that God says not to frustrate our children. so I don't think he wants to frustrate us.

Are you me? I dealt with shame my whole life. I also turned to psychology, always looking for something practical. The Holy Spirit has taught me that its not me who deals with the shame. I had to be delivered from it. It happened during a worship song at church and i just felt a weight lift off of me and i started crying. Believe that Jesus is your deliverer and that He bore all shame on the cross. Hebrews 12:2. We just need to believe what God has said, and trust that in His timing, His word will be accomplished in our lives.

I had the question about mocking/laughing. Thanks for answering it! I wanted to clarify that the beginning to references (Abraham and Sarah laughing when they are told they can have kids) was meant to be on the “evidence for it being sexual” side. Not that Abraham was flirting with God at all but that he laughed when something involving his sexual abilities was mentioned and subverted his expectations. Basically I think you answered the question well but I wanted to point out that all the references I listed potentially have something sexual happening around them or that they are told about or that they are thinking about. Maybe not that they are laughing a flirting only.

one of the (many) things I'm appreciating about the podcast/your approach to study is the humility. So many leaders are more invested in maintaining an image than maintaining the truth. There are precious few that so graciously acknowledge their errors and then go back to correct previously published materials the way I see my Beloved Bema Buddies do. It's so sad that "the Church" can't be more authentic/transparent and create a safer environment for challenging ideas and topics and discussions. Also appreciate the acknowledgment of the struggle in the transition from the doctrinal checklist Western mentality/worldview to the Eastern relational/narrative perspective. Not that I'm phrasing it nearly as well as Marty does, but also not surprising since Marty has been working on both the transition and the explanation thereof for years, whereas it's only been a couple of months for me. The color commentary question that you SO graciously answered was asked in the midst of the above mentioned struggle in the transition from Western to Eastern-ish thinking/hermeneutics. Your answer was much better than my question! Love the podcast and all the related materials! Gotta confess I'm addictively binging w/ the eventual intent of going back to the beginning to really dig in once the mindset shift has settled a bit better. And I use addictively intentionally. Some serious (as opposed to frivolous) dopamine hits w/ all the insight and history and allusions. My only regret is that I found you all so late...ok 2 regrets: I won't likely ever finish deep dives into all the material covered due to current medical diagnoses. Getting decent treatment but for a terminal situation. But what a way to go...having the joy of my salvation restored to take me for however long He has allotted for me! Not dead yet and this gives me better, more usable focus for the remainder of my walk. Better late than never for such rich study material! (Be careful of praying Ps 90:12....you might get my answer). BTW. I usually binge while in dialysis...4 hours x 3 days a week You are such blessings to me, sharing the podcasts and material like this! I feel "wonderfully" greedy and can't wait to share it with others!

Thanks for answering my Bible reordering question, Marty, I'm a Bible nerd as well! It sounded like I got to challenge you a bit😂. I've always wondered if I would look at Scripture differently if I read it in a different order. When you mention that Chronicles comes last in the Hebrew Bible vs Malachi, I got to wondering if that would affect the way I see the story of Scripture. I'm also listening to your book. Let me know if you come up with a (for fun) new order!
