We are talking 'oh sent more men into the grind, we can handle the losses, the other side cannot', and with a cynical look at it all, it was true. Manpower was just a number and whomever ran out first or broke for morale from the losses would lose the war.

actually the events of WWII was so horrid that we haven't had any sort of war that's been even close to the level of population-crushing and most places have been relatively peaceful from the fear and trauma that happened back then. Plus the development of the nuclear bomb and now-a-days hydrogen bomb has really put a no-thank-you mindset in most leaders' minds throughout the world. It's such a dangerous weapon that any country with one or more of those things can decide to fire in retaliation if attacked... but they do not wish to do so as an initiating hostile act cuz they know that full nuclear retaliation will be done in return.
