That guy is a hack. That wall out of plum like that is going to be a huge pain. Hit it with a sledge and get it level then put a few nails in it dont shim that out half an inch or more what kind of garbage is that. I appreciate the walk through but the massive open hole under the shower was not impressive either.

Okay. These showers are packaged like shyt. I bought a bundle. ie: pan, backwall end walls, and accessories. I had it delivered to my nearest Home Depot. I get it home. And brother I nailed the install of that pan. B(*)(*)M. I open the backwall, cracked! I call HD. they said bring it back. I said the pan is installed and I don't want to tear it out. They said "well, you bought a bundle. The only way we can help you is to buy another bundle, swap out the broken piece, and return the bundle. This went on 3 more times. Finally the 4th time there was a crack in the top mounting strip of the wall but it didn't extend on to the finished area. I reinforced that with fiberglass and stuck it in. They only discounted me $100 after a month's worth of bull and 4x 20mile trips to town. CHECK THAT BACK WALL BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE PEOPLE. Thanks for the install video.

Thank You man !!!! Even though like you said you made this look super easy but just for demonstration purposes, I’m needing to do this to our upstairs tub, everything is accessible in basement, clearly have better understanding now, Thank You!!! But I know I will run into something 🤦♂️

we don't tape and dope those yellow test tee plugs and they hold tight. I guess the ball is plugging off any access to the threads. I like the fercos over the cheap PVC caps, that fly apart when too much primer gets on it

As a DIYer I appreciate you frequently acknowledging how real scenarios are always a variable that can basically absorb an entire weekend (for example) with multiple trips back to the store (and yes, it will be Home Depot or Lowes, because the "local hardware store" here (a quasi Do It Best franchisee) is gone by Sat noon until Mon morning. The tubs in our place have a combo overflow and drain control that is not like the typical kind with the plunger. You move a lever from 7:00 over to 4:00. 7 o'clock is closed; 4 o'clock drains the tub. (The lever control is in the overflow grate.)The linkage moves the drain cover, like how the modern ones require you to do that yourself. Made by Crane, and 85+ years old.

Outstanding content all around! The camera angles, clear voice over, and tips provided were immensely helpful. Cleaning up the rough edges on the insert is crucial and not something I was really thinking about -made the fitting and drywall work so much easier. Also, bedding the pan was extremely intimidating, but you gave me the confidence to get the job done with the clarity and ease of having a true pro by my side.

My tub drain came with gasket. Looks like you don't use it, and just use silicone instead. Did I understand that correctly? And thanks for the video... I personally appreciate the easy-to-see view.
@ejswbradshaw12 ай бұрын
the gasket goes on the back side (behind) of tub. I highly recommend plumbers putty over silicone which goes on front side.

I found thia video because we just bought a house and discovered that the "smooth operating" old drain lever is actually broken, presumably with the float/plug stuck in the down position. This video was SUPER helpful and I think I can attempt the repair on my own. Thanks!

Great video, new subscriber! We had a new tub just put in, looks like they used compression style connections vs glue on the tee. There is now an access panel behind the tub. Curious if they should have used glue instead of the compression style like in the original connection in your video before you replaced. I even heard that code in MD might even say glue connection is mandatory. Thanks

For the novice DYI'er (from another novice) installing this as a mobil home shower upgrade, here a couple of things that I ran into that might be helpful: 1. Mobile and maufactured home are not alway level or square. Suggest making sure that the shower pan is level (for proper drainage) and just let the walls fall where they may. 2. Keep a flashlight close when setting the end walls so that you can see the joining tabs and slots. 3. More than likely, your mobile will have internal wall 1x4 studs (instead of 2x4s) and may need need to be doubled. 4. Make sure of what's behind any paneling that you may have to cut away. (I cut into a PolyB water line and couldn't find a proper repair fitting locally - did find and got from an online supplier) 5. If adding safety bars, you may need to add wood spacers between the back side surface of your panels - some walls are flat and don't need spacers - Sterling walls are offset and need them. 6. Finally - Set end panels before applying caulk to the front corners as shown in most (Sterling model) videos - can be messy if you have to remove panels before securing to wall. (Note - they can be swung out enough to apply the caulk after locking the panels in.) Also helps to mask off the area before applying caulk Hope this help anyone undertaking this job for the first time. (s) An Old Rookie p.s. You might want to fill the seams where the wall panels meets with DAP or some such sealer.
