As always - great to see your layout again but it wasn't easy to adjust to the up & down bobbing of your camera at the 2 min mark , otherwise , good attempt at trying to do the "old fashioned" Black & White video effect that I can still recall being the "normal" way that we were in the early 70's , well done.

Hi Dallas, great videos of the review and running of the Flying Scotsman. As a side note my father drove it twice when it was in Victoria for the bicentennial. We chased and photographed that day. One to remember. On a personal note, having worked in dermatology for many years it looks like you have a squamous cell carcinoma on the back of your right hand. I hope you are having it looked at by a specialist ( Mohs surgeon) we need you guys to be around 😊 for the long term. I just ordered the Trix FS for my layout. Pity it’s not the Gresley A1 version 4472 that toured Australia. But it’s still a mighty fine model. Next, Bernhard.

Thanks, Interesting video. I have the same type of locomotive and yes it has had similar problems. The fitting of the wire on the draw bar was a big step forward but the grease looks interesting. Most of my focus for shorts has been on the front pony truck. I'll have to look at the rear brake as well. cheers Phil

What I do for the joining to the tender is extend that red wire onto the cross member of each bogie this eliminates any problems with contact with the tender to bogie joints. It also solves the problem with some tenders where the bogies can swing 180 after derailing. The other trick I use is, after joining loco and tender, put a small blob of solder on the tender pin so that the tender doesn't disconnect when you rerail the locomotive

hi Dallas great review but as with all auscision-models you will find they are not genuine kadees and just their scale sized metal knuckle couplers as they call them I believe generic Chinese knock offs

Just watched your review, I agree with a lot of your comments, NSWGR steam wasn't kept 'squeeky clean' (certainly not the showroom shine like Thirlmere do) but they were hard working machines. The biggest thing a person can do to their model is a coat of 'Dullcote' or flat finish. Also, most engines didn't have autocouplers on the tenders, 59, 60, 38s and the 5000 gal tenders did but most didn't which meant a buffered S trk or other 4 wheeler between the tender and wagon (if the model doesn't have buffers, use an match truck). Another thing is the NSWGR policy was not to use headlights during daylight hours (look at the photos, do you see a headlight on?). I model Bombala, a southern branchline terminus. I only have 4 engines because that's all I need to run timetabled services (certainly no interest in 57s or 60 class lol) but after watching this review, I think I'll get this book, if nothing else, it's a link to my dad & pop, both Eveleigh drivers during the steam years.

Thanks, John will be able to help out! Would like to see Bombala!

** N.B. often we cannot see what you are trying to show us as your hand is in between the item and the camera..... I 3d printed one of the wheel gauges. It would be great if there were similar gauges to the KD height gauge for other couplings that are on the different manufactured models. Round nose pliers or jeweller's pliers will do exactly the same job as those expensive KD ones.. I clean my tracks with Metho. Not everyone can afford the expensive items you are showcasing and there are much cheaper items that can do just the same job for a 1/3 of the price of these items.
@KingsviewModelRailway2 ай бұрын
All good points, BUT.. If your new to the hobby, these tools will help and its the ones we found work. It's not about saving a dime, its about the getting the right advice. Cleaning tracks with metho introduces moisture and can introduce other issues. Ill try to make vision next time clearer. Happy modelling!

People forget that not too long ago if you modeled NSW the you had crude Lima models or exquisite brass models from Korea and there was no alternative. The 38's from ARM are still crude being updated Lima models and the brass locos are still the benchmark but the Casula Hobbies Z12 shows that others here can produce a quality outline steam model which has been lacking for so many years. Even the Eureka 38 is not that great with unpainted stainless steel wheels and their Garratt is the same and they charge high prices. The running qualities can also be a bit like Russian roulette. Mansfield brass locos were always superb quality coupled with superb running.
@KingsviewModelRailway2 ай бұрын
Agreed, but the ARM 38's are a new mould, not Lima ones.

What a fantastic video for anyone thinking of switching from Analouge (DC) to Digital (DCC) When I first built my layout I went DC and while it was somewhat satisfying it did not give me the flexibility of running realistic train operations. Switching to DCC has given me far more enjoyment. I fully endorse all the information provided in this video.

Märklin uses a proprietary protocol. However, their current electronic equipment is fully capable of DCC as well, but you would have to adjust some settings for this. If you like the Märklin equipment, consider to buy the Trix-versions of it - same hardware, but configured to do DCC by default. Trix is actually a brand of Märklin for the two track market (scales H0 and N) since 1997. Even many traditional Märklin-users switched to DCC because the decoder configuration seems to be more convenient to them.
