The replacement sealed beam lights are readily available at your local parts house. The Sylvania H6024 are an affordable option.

My Dad worked at a Ford dealer all through the '60s, and he said the easiest way to remove those type door panels is run a broom handle behind it after you get the clips loose - keeps it from buckling. Really helped on my '67 Fairlane.

Super nice wheels. The Cragars and the Haliburtons are my picks. Back in 1984, I bought a 66 Chevelle and it had 6 hole wheels that looked similar to your Haliburtons. I thought they were US mags but they only had 1 lip on them. The US mags always had 2 lips out towards the edge of the wheel. I also thought they were aluminum. No markings and no center caps though they had a hole in the center of them. I wrecked that car after about 9 months. Smashed the front tire and wheel, A pillar, etc. Pulled the motor and trans out of it and dropped them into a 70 Pontiac I bought with a blown motor and Cragars. I only paid 400.00 for each car. Thanks for taking me back to those days

Looking good Clay. Is that a Ford column rod? Whatcha gonna do for a horn button ?
@chopshop_motors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. the outside portion or mast jacket is a shortened 55 F100, the actual shaft is an early 60s GM...Olds I think with the rag joint coupler removed. bearings on both ends are Olds. I will use an F100 turn sig switch which does not have a provision for a horn. the wheel will get a chrome center cap but the horn button will have to be separate and not on the steering wheel.

Nice job Clay! An extra pair of hands would make it easier, but you got it done. I’ve wrestled reverse eye springs without a spreader too. I used a ratchet strap to pull the spring up to the crossmember, where you used the big C clamps. You’re so right that having tools is all the difference, and you can never have too many clamps.
@chopshop_motors Жыл бұрын
That extra pair of hands is never around when you need them. When I put together after paint I will install the main spring on the axle and assemble the spring pack on the installed main spring.

I enjoyed the video, nice truck and a great guy. I know exactly what you mean on building a truck from a million parts, sometimes it’s not as fun of an adventure as some might say but it’s worth it in the end. As for the rust I wish my project didn’t have rust haha 😂

Nice job Clay. What appealed to me about this truck and the 30-day build is that you used ‘extra parts’ and did it on the cheap. Wish I had my parts trucks back, I’d do the same thing. I always sold extra parts to finance one good vehicle, or to make room for another one.
@chopshop_motors Жыл бұрын
That is always the pull at my shop too, sometimes selling the extra parts is how I keep the project moving!
@IowaMercMan Жыл бұрын
Nice job. Good to see you back in the shop! I had to add an electric fuel pump on my hot rod. But I only use it to prime the mechanical pump. I have a momentary switch at the dash so I have to hold it ON while she primes. After that the mechanical pump handles the flow just fine. Never have to remember to turn it off that way. **Curious why you decided to keep Chopper 6V when you put it together? PS with this setup you have to buy a pump that allows fuel to flow through even when it’s not pumping. The fine folks at Carter tech support helped me pick the pump.
@chopshop_motors Жыл бұрын
That is a great idea on the momentary switch, I am going to make that change. The fuel pump will allow fuel flow when off. And thanks for the info from Carter, may need that down the line. As far as keeping it 6v, it was really just the path of least resistance for this project. I had all the stuff so I used it. But to your point I will convert the 49 F5 we are working on to 12v neg ground.

Not a lot different from the 2-barrel Holley 94. Very familiar with those, especially the leaky power valves! Man those things give me fits. Mikes Carburetor channel on YT has a great video “Testing Accelerator Pump Circuit”… how to test the check ball, power valve and pump discharge nozzle all working together. It’s for the 94 but should be applicable. Check it out.

Interesting. I have a carburetor off on old Dodge 6 cylinder 1955. The engine stumbles whenever I step on the has pedal. I think something is plugged, but I can't find where. I see you have a piece of a railroad fail on your workbench. Funny, I have a chunk of rail about 10 inches long. It's actually bent a little on one end. I use it like one would use an anvil
@walterwhitaker13952 жыл бұрын
Nice job! FYI..always Check float needle seating by inverting the float assembly and using a short piece of fuel hose to blow air through using your mouth. If you can't blow through it the seat is good! Saves having to deal with flooding issues and tapping on the float bowl area to get it to seat. Just one old wrench twister sharing.

A lot different from mine (Model A pickup, Flathead, T-5) but the issues of function and comfort are the same. I appreciate that in each video you give the background on how you acquired parts, what you were thinking, what you’ve learned and what you’re thinking now. Much appreciated.
