Sadly after first season in Poland, in season 2 and 3, trying to act as a mole (pretending to be a mole) was so dominating strategy that show was unwatchable.

Besides the part of people killing people always being the point (so far) the hunger games could be almost always different especially with quarter quells. But i feel like it could not last long enough. Especially since there are rebels trying to find the arenas and never reusing the arenas.

This was a brilliant video. It started getting really interesting after Ellie Rasmussen pointed out that the previous game master was killed and you could hear the fear in the voice.

They can't risk letting it go on for weeks. Because if the tributes realize they can just survive for weeks with the survival skills they were taught and on top of that become really close with their allies, eventually they will not want to kill each other. And that threatens the entire system. So they force encounters as much as possible, even if that means the show will be shorter

I love the original way more, we still get a new season every year of the OG wie is de mol, from the Netherlands where they also travel through foreign. I truly hate what Netflix did to it, the travel component made it so cool.

They travel in the Netflix version too, just around a single country.

Remember the Real hunger game is a metagame played by the Capital to keep the districts subservient to the central state. So the Capital’s Symbol of the Cornucopia serves as an emblem of the gifts of the Capital, while also serving as a back drop to district Children fighting like savages.

The 4 people who made the show are in the closing credits: Bart De Pauw, Tom Lenaerts, Michiel De Vlieger and Michel Van Hove. Those 4 made a lot of memorable tv together between 1995 and 2010.

I would advise people to look into Jan Versteegh and Lennart Driessen. Both were the mole, Jan in NL, Lennart in BE, both were exceptional players. Jan was the best candidate ever, he threw himself into every task, ... to make them fail on seemingly details, or in the second part of the task. Most memorable was: transport as many items from this house to another house in 1 car trip, so he packed the car; second part of the task: the lady who lives in the house needs to go as well. Oops. Lennart was the best mole ever: the other candidates only suspected him in the finale, and the winner that season won just over 18K, lowest ever.

If I was in The Mole, I would secretly unionize the cast, maximize the earnings, and then split the earnings at the end with everyone but the mole and reveal myself as the anti-mole.

I wonder if this was a partial inspiration for Wendover's The Getaway. It's almost the exact same premise (as far as the players are concerned) minus the quiz, except all of the players are the mole. The production crew misled them each into thining they were the only mole. Spoiler: At one point, one of the players starts to suspect what's really going on, and realizes that if they could all collaborate to throw the challenges and increase their payout, but that he can't actually propose that without admitting to being the mole, and therefore the risk is too extreme, which is fascinating from a game design and strategy standpoint

i have not seen any versions other than the dutch one, so idk how possible it is in others, HOWEVER, this video misses a HUGE part of strategy that is possible in the dutch show the dutch show has physical money to represent the prize money throughout the show, meaning this has to be kept somewhere and accessed relatively easy to add or subtract money between games. WHAT IS IN THAT STACK IS THE AMOUNT OF THE PRIZE MONEY if someone loses, hides, or destroys the money, that's a good thing for the mole. if the mole gets put in charge of the money OR gets access to it for some reason; BEING THE BREADWINNER IN GAMES IS A VIABLE MOLE STRATEGY meaning, in the dutch show, NO ONE can be truly eliminated from being the mole, no matter how much money they seem to be earning during tasks
@kendaar90026 күн бұрын
I watched the first season on Netflix and it drove me up the wall, I hated this so much. The rules were never properly explained, what are the actual mechanics? Why specifically does the mole want to sabotage? Do they get the money lost or do they just need to be last man standing? What tools do the players have to route out the mole? The entire time I was watching I have no concrete explanation of how this all worked, till the very end I had no idea how the mole would win the money. Then there was my lack of information, the idea is for me to play along as well but I am severely outclassed by the players, they have 24/7 information of what's going on compared to me only seeing the clips shown on the show without the proper context of the rules so I could see Mole tells. I watched the entire show with my mother and she was convinced that this season's bread winner was in fact the Mole because neither of us had any idea how the game worked at the end of the day except Player good, Mole bad, (she thought being the bread winner would be the perfect Mole disguise, which is true but then why should anyone sabotage?). Additionally I don't get to see any of the quizzes or get confirmation from the quizzes like the players do. So eventually I just gave up entirely on trying to work out who the Mole was, the I may as well put my faith in a innocent player and just presume their answer is correct. So by the end of it I just ended up watching a group of players doing random tasks to get money which I never understood how they could take home, with a invisible threat that I could never see do anything. What frustrated me so much was one change would fix all my problems, tell me who the Mole is, that way I am no longer at such a severe information disadvantage having no idea if the players are just idiots, incompetent or traitors. I can easily see the games rules through the Moles eyes, and I get to enjoy the deception of this deception game.
@OrangeHand5 күн бұрын
The Mole sabotages because it's their role within the game, there doesn't need to be any other incentive. It would be absurd to know who the Mole is from the get-go because that ruins the entire premise of trying to figure out who it is.
@kendaar90024 күн бұрын
@OrangeHand if the mole has no incentive to sabotage and loses by being found out, the mole should never sabotage. I would love to be able to play along and work out who the mole is but I am given nothing to go off of, without incentive the mole shouldn't sabotage, so I am looking for someone who doesn't sabotage? Nothing I see in the show can be trusted, I am not shown everything that is happening, the interviews have the mole lying to the audience, and I can not work anything out from the quizzes. I'm left with no way to figure out the mole except guessing and luck. This is why I say let us know who the mole is, similar shows such as Traitors does this and it works well, we get to see the deception in the deception game and play along by working out the best strategy for both sides to employ and theorise how the game is gonna go.

With computation redstone a lot of people are now passed binary and are using hexadecimal, redstone has signal strengths from 0-15 so 16 different amounts, because of those and competitors hexadecimal systems are becoming more popular, as a computational redstoner myself I’d love to show you some of my stuff sometime, and not just a calculator but a full CPU :), also the logic you used for the adders and decoders were more complex then they needed to be but they fulfilled the same logic tables needed, you definitely have the idea though :)

The reason the saving throw distribution is so distorted that previous editions of DnD used 3 special saving throw stats: reflex, fortitude, and will. In DnD 5e they split those up into the normal 6 stats, which favored Dex, Con, and Wis. Also, I feel like one lesson the game has taught by this point is don’t group your allies super close together, or you’re gonna get fucked by aoe effects. That first turn is a lot less distressing if only one party member goes down instead of all of them

This is amazing. Utterly. My only question is whether as a game maker, are you also cognisant of the sociopolitical nature of the districts? District 1 and 2 are priority areas that as well as having pre-trained entrants, but they also supply citizens to form their peacekeepers. Having 1 and 2 win is useful for loyalty and prestige. One of the first issues driving Crane'd death was Katniss showing humanity to Rue, and Rue's impact changing the balance of loyalty in her district. How much is the placement driven by this, over player scores, abilities and popularity? The Hunger Games are about public control. Sure the Capitol citizens care about the entertainment factors, but how much do you adjust for things the capitol citizens know nothing about but could change the balance in districts? Especially without showing favouritism, or showing your hand as a game maker?

The Quarter Quell was even worse game design. No interaction by the game maker at all to force them together, just 12 events in fixed zones on a schedule. It's a good thing the tributes escaped when they did, because it would have been incredibly boring to watch that cycle repeat for multiple days. Also, the events are almost all extremely lethal and fill the entire zone, and the arena boundaries are both lethal and invisible so tributes will sometimes die at random from a navigation error. I bet more tributes died from the arena than from their fellow competitors.
