🤯 You totally blew me away with how you made 2 entrances! I always felt bad bcuz my cats never had a 2nd exit to get away if they had too. Now hopefully I can change that? I've been trying to figure out how to fix up my cats house for this winter. We've had it easy so far. Thank God. I'd love to have them inside but, just can't right now. Anyways, Thank you Soo Soo much! I think this would do great underneath a deck/porch added straw/hay. God Bless You and your family! Hope your kitties love it!
@Thejoyofcats16 сағат бұрын
since making this video, I learned that some people feel the 2 entrances aren't necessary as it makes the shelter colder. It seems like it depends on the risk of predators in the area.

So clever! I wish I had seen this before I wasted my money on these ready made cat shelters I bought. The cats wont even use them. Maybe we can try this for the next one. Thank you for your video!

I have one porch kitty. We've tried to coax her in, but she doesn't want it. She survived last winter, but she had her mother. Now she's by herself. I have made my front porch into a little hideaway for her for the winter. I made a winter hut and bought a second one that I put inside a cooler bag for extra insulation. I still worry. Today the wind chill is 8°. She's in the tote, but I'd rather she be in the house.
@Thejoyofcats4 күн бұрын
It's difficult when they don't want to come inside. Before we had a shed set up for our cats, we made straw forts for them, which protected them from the wind. We also have some of the container shelters now. Keeping them dry and out of the wind really helps them a lot. You can see one of them in this blog post: thejoyofcats.com/outdoorcatshelter/ Sounds like you have a good setup on your porch kitty.

As a huge cat lover, I am so glad that there are people like you who takes great care of outdoor cats. I see the two exits, that's great! I have one indoor cat and one feral cat who lives in my backyard that I've been feeding for six months. She goes under our raised shed to sleep, and there's no other cat or dog or predators in my area, so I think she is safe, but I still worry about her every day.

Hello, what do you think is the best heating blanket for the kennel for my cat? I ordered a house from Clawsable but the blanket that came with it doesn't seem like enough. Today it's 2° Celsius outside and 12° in my shed. The blanket is not optimal for me. Can you please put me on a reliable one? thanks a lot for the tip. best regards, George 🇨🇿

13 years ago my niece adopted a beautiful calico kitten she named Ally from a pet adoption event and for 4 years things were fine... Then she had her son and then 6 months later she and her husband adopted a rambunctious dog for their son to grow up with ...as Ally was definitely not a playful animal companion for a child. Ally didn't deal well with having a child and dog suddenly chasing her around and was so miserably stressed out . This unhappiness and her incompatibility with other animals and children shown by Ally after 5 years forced my niece to make the painful decision to rehome her. This led to a tearful phone call from my niece that made me Ally's second mommy. I love my kitty baby dearly and she's been happy with me for 8 years now...longer than she was with my niece. The whole family agrees this was the best for everyone..especially Ally and me. Yes getting a pet IS a responsibility but sometimes that responsibility means giving them up for their wellbeing.

I really appreciate your input about automatic litter boxes. I totally agree about monitoring your cat's health when you see the quality of its poops. It is also a way to monitor that they are also peeing enough. Thank you!
@FloppycatsАй бұрын
Such a cute shirt! I reviewed a Litter Robot 3 once upon a time. I always thought people were lazy and wanted an automatic litter box, but then I met a firefighter who had 48-hour shifts and wanted a clean litter box for his cat. Or a person that has had knee surgery and cannot scoop. So definitely, it's a personal decision based on your situation. I came to appreciate the Litter Robot quite a bit. I cleaned my LR every 6 months - I have videos on my channel, and it was super easy. My preferred litter box is a high-sided one - that's what I want for me. And you have to figure out which one works for you. For your digger cat - you might like a high-sided box! The Litter Robot globe (cylinder) is not metal (it's plastic and rubber) - and yes, they can dig. And yes, if the poop isn't solid, it can smear.
@ThejoyofcatsАй бұрын
@@Floppycats thank you for your insights and additional information. I feel that Litter Robot brand is the only one I would actually be able to trust. I also had not considered how an automatic box could help some be able to have a cat. I hope people that read this comment check out your review in your channel, if they interested.
@FloppycatsАй бұрын
@@Thejoyofcats Yes, definitely. I felt sort of like a "privileged" a$$ for thinking people who wanted it were lazy. It's also great for pregnant moms who cannot scoop the litter box. There are many great reasons for it...like my brother who only scooped his cat's litter box once a week (don't get me started) - so it helps cats in some households have a clean litterbox when they might not have before. But yes, for my home, I prefer just the regular high-sided litter boxes.
@ThejoyofcatsАй бұрын
@Floppycats those reason all make sense. I didn’t consider them at all. I am so glad you pointed them out. I will encourage people to get the Litter Robot brand or very carefully review the safety of other brands. The video of the cheaper knock offs hurting the cats was very sad. 😔

I've had a Cat Genie and Litter Maid. I liked the Litter Maid but it would get stuck all the time. If it had a stronger motor it would be better. The Cat Genie was terrible. I spent more time with there customer service than it would take to clean a box. I returned it to Costco. So, I agree with you. I still have a litter maid and having a stronger motor might be fun to experiment; with cat safety in mind.

Wonderful description of how insidiously the costs can mount. I'spent $10k on my 7yo cat who had liver lymphoma➡it's just as you described➡it can be a shock w/a young cat & you keep coming to another cure possibility, or need for tx of a side-effect, or complication, & you try them at what seems affordable/in exchange for possibility it will help, etc. & you won't lose your beloved furry friend. I was 1 of those people who scoffed/harsly judged people who spent that much $$, thinking there are so many homeless kids, people, etc Then, I learned that like a lot of things, until it happens in your life, you haven't been able to realize how much more there is to it. I hope a lot of people watch your video➡b/c for sure, people will understand & empathize❤

Our remaining 2 cats are both rescues that showed up, and I fed in the backyard for a few months. 1st one was feral, did TNR. Then kept feeding him canned food twice a day until he became tame and came inside and quite quickly became friends with the other 3 (who have all since passed). He has become the perfect cat in many ways. 2nd one showed up with a tipped ear and friendly. Fed her canned food for weeks until she also chose inside. She was pretty feisty but has mellowed over time. Neither were chipped. Always posted as found cats and no one claimed. They aren't super chummy but get along ok. Adopted an older cat from a rescue, but so far, the intro is not going that well as the oldest cat isn't as receptive as I thought he might be. I'm super stressed with worry about him. 😢😢 I also feed 3 other feral cats every night. No clue where they go during the day. Guessing someone else may be feeding them too.

Cats can range in color from red to orange and buff, yellow, "pink," beige, brown tones, etc. All cats in this range are tabbies *they have stripes* except for "breeds" like Havana Brown and Burmese. Humane education is so urgently needed everywhere! Feral cats are the descendants of domestic cats who have been abandoned, and their descendants. Cats do far better indoors-only than outdoors or indoors-outdoors. The internet is full of actual facts (and non-facts) on the subject. Those of us who really care about cats and who have educated ourselves about their wellbeing agree with the experts who advocate for keeping them indoors-only. My ex and I earned the trust of our area's feral matriarch 2 locations ago, and her progeny. We got everyone spayed/neutered, innoculated, and vetted, and adopted them ourselves or in the case of some of the little kittens, a trusted rescuer/advocate was able to get them adopted into loving homes. You probably know some, if not most, of the dangers cats outdoors face. No matter where they live, it's a bad idea. Fortunately, my current community has activists who have been proactive in TNR and educating others, so I have seen very, very few cats outdoors in this community.
@Thejoyofcats3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the information. TNR works when people step up and take the time and effort to get all the outdoor cats fixed.

@@Thejoyofcats ABSOLUTELY. It's a long, hard struggle to educate people and a lot of them don't care or believe birth control, for cats or anyone else, is "wrong." But for every cat saved from a horrible life on the streets and/or the health problems being intact often cause, it's a victory for them and for all of us who care deeply about each and every cat's life and wellbeing.
