Not a complaint, just a clarification 😃 Didn't you include Mary of Teck in your video about the spouses of the rulers of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha or something like that? I think that's the video I watched yesterday 😃

Why was she permitted to marry a British subject, surely as Princess Royal it was expected she marry the head of a foreign royal house?

Can you do a video on Princess Victoria’s suitors, I hear the Earl of Rosebery and the Marquess of Cambridge were amongst them. A video on why Louise, Princess Royal was allowed to marry the Duke of Fife rather than a Prince would be interesting.

George III was not mad, he suffered from Porphyria. Porphyria is not a "mental illness". Porphyria is a defect in the metabolism of red blood cell molecules, responsible for transporting oxygen. One of its symptoms is suffering from hallucinations and mental confusion, among many other ailments, hence the belief, at the time, that the king was mad. Today it is a disease that can be managed with medication. I have it as well.

Thank you! Great mini-biography, Maria! ❤👍😊 For a "maiden lady" (of her era) Princess Helena Victoria certainly did a lot of independent volunteer work ... Good for her! ❤👍😊 I suppose that both "Thora" (Helena Victoria) and "Louie" (Marie Louise) could be described as "princesses of nowhere" After 1917 they were not allowed to use their "surname" ( i.e. the name of their father's royal house "House of " *Schleswig-Holstein* -Sonderburg-Augustenburg") I wonder if Princess Helena Victoria's sister, "Louie" had give up her British citizenship to marry Prince Aribert of Anhalt? Or was a woman's citizenship (m.1891) not important in royal circles? [Marie Louise's] ""Her marriage was annulled on 13 December 1900 by [Prince Aribert's] his father. Princess Marie Louise, on an official visit to Canada at the time, immediately returned to Britain. According to her memoirs, she regarded her marriage vows as binding, so she never remarried."" --- Wikipedia. Yikes! It took her father-in-law long enough to annul that marriage ("Louie was 28 at the time, not exactly "over the hill" But if the marriage had not been consummated from 1891--1900; I guess it was never going to be consummated!?!

Thank Maria. ❤ I wonder if Victoria ever met Prince Agustus Frederick's children? (b. 1794, b. 1801, b.1819 -- V.) Prince Agustus Frederick seems like a decent enough chap (compared to some of Victoria's other uncles ... Yikes what a bunch!) Agustus Frederick gave Victoria away at her wedding. He did (obviously) care about his first wife and their children. He met and married her in Rome (Anglican ceremony ... Although her family was related to the Stuarts--Catholics) and again in London (m. 1793) St George's, in Hanover Square. It is sad that despite lobbying to have his marriage to Lady Augusta Murray (1761--1830) recognized for years that he was (most likely) coerced into, formally, separating from her 27 November 1801). Their daughter was born (August 1801) a few months before their separation. Perhaps a deal was struck after he received his titles and an annuity. At least his wife got maintenance for herself and the children) "In 1806, their mother, Lady Augusta, was given royal license to use the surname 'de Ameland' instead of Murray" -- Wikipedia I do not know if this would have been allowed if her father had not been a Scots nobleman. ""A year after the death of Lady Augusta D'Ameland (Lady Augusta Murray), the Duke of Sussex married a second time on 2 May 1831 (again in contravention of the Royal Marriages Act) to Lady Cecilia Letitia Buggin (1793-1873), the eldest daughter of Arthur Gore, 2nd Earl of Arran, and Elizabeth Underwood, and the widow of Sir George Buggin. On the same day, Lady Cecilia assumed the surname "Underwood" (her mother's maiden surname) by Royal Licence. She was never titled or recognized as the Duchess of Sussex. However, she was created Duchess of Inverness in her own right by Queen Victoria in 1840."" -- Wikipedia. I suppose that this was a kindness to her uncle. Again, I do not think Cecilia would have received the same courtesy if she was a commoner. Ha! Just looked it up! "Duke of Sussex" went extinct with Prince Agustus Frederick. The title (second creation) was for Prince Harry -- Diana and Charles III son! Perhaps it will go extinct again.

Thank you Maria ❤👍😊 George II of Great Britain and Hanover was the last British king to lead an army into battle. *Great Britain and Hanover were split in 1837* because under Salic law, a female could not accede to the Hanoverian throne. It was her uncle (the 5th son of George III) *Prince Ernest, Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale* (he had been made a duke in 1799) who *acceded to the Hanoverian throne* (1837) *upon the death of his father* *Victoria* (1819 -- 1901) *was the last of the British Hanovers* The German Hanovers still exist but monarchies are not legally recognized in Germany, however the German royal families still have social clout and many have high positions in banking and government, as well as the EU. Prince Ernest had married (1815) his first cousin Frederica of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Frederica had been twice-widowed and already had produced 10 children. Ernest's and Frederica's only child became King George V of Hanover (he was born in 1819, the same year as Victoria)[1] Ernest had been educated and received military training in Hanover and served in the British House of Lords (as a conservative). He served in the Hanoverian military near Tournai, (in modern) Belgium, against France's revolutionary forces. Ernest was married after the Napoleonic wars and lived in Berlin (where his only legal son was born). Nobody seems to know of any illegitimate children by Ernest; although it is rumored that he was the father of his sister's Sophia's illegitimate child. (i.e. Princess Sophia of the United Kingdom) But other's thought the child was the offspring of Thomas Garth (a tutor) Still others claim that Sophia never had a child. However, George IV did issue an order to his family for his sisters tonot to be alone with Prince Ernest, Duke of Cumberland (What? O_O !!!) *Anyhow, Who knows?* _______________________________________ 1.) *Victoria's cousin, George, Duke of Cambridge* (son of Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge) *was also born in 1819.* (Prince Adolphus was the 7th son of George III) Prince Adolphus served as viceroy for the Kingdom of Hanover under George IV and William IV (1816 -- 1837) Prince George, Duke of Cambridge was born at Cambridge House in Hanover.

Thank you Maria. Whew! One needs a scorecard to keep up with all of these illegitimate kids of English Kings and nobles! Prince William of UK became Duke of Clarence and St Andrews and Earl of Munster (1789) He acceded to the thrones of UK and Hanover (1830) . George FitzClarence not getting along with his father was a Hanoverian trait. Like father, like son. William IV didn't get along with his father (George III) either.

The line of succession when George V was alive: Edward (later Edward VIII,then Duke of Windsor) Albert, Duke of York (later George VI) Princess Elizabeth Princess Margaret Henry, Duke of Gloucester George, Duke of Kent Elizabeth was 10 when her uncle abdicated. Had her father died while she was underage, her uncle would be regent till she came of age. During George's reign, Henry acted as a Counsellor of State (he did what the King would do while the King was away).

No. They buried themselves in a strictly authoritarian autocracy that refused to change with the times (Nicky & Sunny hated everything the Duma stood for). Alexandra was also venomously hated because the Russian public viewed her as a 'German spy'. She was Hessian royalty with an English twist in a Prussian economy, an" did not consider herself a part of Wilhelm's Germany. If anything, she came to hate Germany whilst vaingloriously holding on to her Russian Orthodoxy faith and her highly valued mystic healer Rasputin.

In exhile, she eventually had to sell some of her royal jewels saved from the Crimea evacuation. England housed her for a bit before she moved back to Denmark. She never accepted the fact her son was assasinated & always believed he was alive. Incidentally, she really did love her husband even though the marriage was arranged.
