I agree with Rick Warren on everything except that there are people who can continue to hurt you even though you no longer want them or anything about them in your life. That's why stalkers are real.

I went to a couple of CR meetings and just could not stomach it. Grown men "confessing" to each other how they are being tempted yet again, "celebrating" that they have gone so many days without fornicating, or getting drunk, or fill in the sinful blank. Their mantra is that "every man has a hurt, habit, or a hangup." All they talk about is sin and more sin and how HARD it is to do the right thing. I asked them what they thought of the verse in 1 John 5:3 that tells us "...His commandments are not burdensome" - they responded as though I was raining on their already wet parade. Nobody was to judge. But 1 Cor. 5 tells us to avoid any so-called brother who is a drunkard or a fornicator, or a brawler, or an extortioner - in fact the passage tells us to not even eat with such a person. There is NO WAY any of the apostles would have joined a group like this. There is really no celebration, because there is no real recovery. They have traded in one or two addictions for an addiction to a recovery group. I suppose the latter is the lesser of two evils, but I for one and glad I am totally a new creature and that my "old man" is dead. Why would I want to resurrect my past? Yuck. These men are obsessed with sin and have chronic victim mentality. They will never recover. If you are in one of these groups, run. Let the Bible fill you with its truth, that you are the righteousness of God, and greater is He who is in you than he who is the world, that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, that doing the right thing is not burdensome, that you are strong and not weak. In other words, believe the good news of the gospel. You will 50% better in the next minute and 99% better the next day.

Oops Faith in God,... was replaced to your Higher Power, and being court ordered to attend sorta dragged folks who didn’t want sobriety but were having it court ordered into a meeting they had little to no interest in.

Celebrating Recover Fellowship is a blessing to people suffering addictions. It’s a fellowship around something besides drinking.

The founders of AA founded a faith based 12 step program from the start, I think, it’s not surprising that they modeled the steps after their saviors sermon on the mount, what I don’t know is why Fail in God,...was replaced by a higher power. If I’m correct.

I went to celebrate recovery. I took step classes up the moral inventory. I kept being put on hold due to disorganization. Long story short. It undid the counseling and personal work I had done prior to that. Put me back further than I was before I sought help. I had never been suicidal prior to CR. Depressed but never suicidal. I was also left doubting my faith and the existence of God. It was solid before I went through those doors.

Sweetheart I dont know much about CR but I have spent many years as a heroin addict. I was in and out of detox and rehabs for years. I went to a program in 2018 and CR came once a week and held group. I was drawn to the group's bc they specifically talked about Jesus. I never joined CR but I did get born again and I gave my life to Jesus. It is now 2021 and Jesus has delivered me from drug addiction and homosexuality. I was also gay my whole life. I was baptized in Holy Spirit. Today I dont desire drugs, alchohol, women or cigarettes. I'm not saying that I dont sin but bc I have the spirit of God in me and I trust in him to guide me every day; God has taken the desire for those things away from me. If you can truly give your life to Jesus and surrender your life to Him I believe you will find peace and joy. I pray that you find the willingness to live for Jesus. John 12:25 says Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. God bless you! Also God is REALLY REAL!

What's the percentage of addicts who "complete" the program and never use "drugs" again? I ask because this seems to be a repackaged AA program, that relies on a higher power and has something like a 15% recovery rate.
@dustinhinson84106 жыл бұрын
pictom1 , I ask the same thing. I did a court-ordered rehab and I relapsed like 15 minutes after I set foot in the free world.

Ive had to be delivered several times God gave me the power to do it. It doesn’t change the fact that He also gave me free will, I turned back to what I had been saved from several times before I got to where I am today. Complete surrender takes time, don’t give up & keep leaning on God for support 🩷

I used drugs for 30 yrs. I was addicted to meth & PCP. Not to mention the alcohol and cigs. I let drugs take control of my life. My mom raised my son and CPS took my daughter to be raised by her paternal grandparents. I used drugs in jail, live in drug programs and felt I'd die, high. Until the day a friend took me to church. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I ugly cried for a long time. I asked God to please forgive me and to please not let me walk out of church without him. Down on my knees praying I completely surrendered to him. I left from church that day and I haven't used since. God took the addictions from me. I had no cravings or withdrawals. Glory be to God! I finally have peace, hope, joy and love in my heart. I'm working now, God blessed me with a job exactly one month after I was saved. God is the answer.
