This is an amazingly well writing book. It is also the worse book I've ever read and from what I've read of the author, she is either a bad writer or a bad person. This is not a heartbreaking look into trauma, this is a cliched and harmful message that suicide, self harm, and toxic relationships are the only answer.

I wish more people would talk about the heinous actions of the Koch Bros. for the last 40+ years, especially their master plan to dumb down America.

Years ago, I became friends with an author I much admired, Drusilla Campbell, now sadly deceased. Her writing displayed such precise observation, such insight about human nature, and such luminous expression, not to mention wit, that being in her presence was intimidating. I feared she would see through the slightest pretense, snicker at the slightest obscurity or laziness. So whenever I was with her, I would sharpen up my attention and take care with every utterance. Helen Simonson's writing evokes the same reaction. How stimulating a friend she must be and, in her sweet genteel English manner, how imposing.
